This week I found out that two members of Stairclimbers of LA have passed away.
At every stairhike Tom had a smile on his face and was always in a good mood. I was shocked to learn a few months back that Tom was battling cancer. Tom bravely fought his disease for four months before going to a better place.
One of my biggest pet peeves is that I hate being touched by strangers, even a pat on the back or a tap on my shoulder. Tom would always pat me on the back or put his hand on my shoulder, but Tom never met a stranger, just friends he hadn't met before!
Then on today's stairhike in Silver Lake I found out about Don T. Don T., was the organizer for the Valencia Hiking Crew (http://www.meetup.com/HikeItUp/), and six other people, died during a flash flood at Zion National Park, in Utah. I loved the hikes Don led. He was a down to earth, nice, friendly guy.
VHC is hosting a tribute hike and potluck (http://www.meetup.com/HikeItUp/events/225414740/) for Don T. and the other members, on Sun. Sept 20th. Join if you can make it. I think VHC requires members to be approved before joining.
Both will be missed.
So in tribute to Tom and Don T., please join me in a stairhike in Highland Park. This 3 mile stairhike will be a slow paced, with gentle staircases and hills.
Highland Park was picked because both Tom and Don T. went on stairhikes in the area.
