Game recap 06-16-2012

Here is a brief recap of the two scenarios we played:

#1: Alliance Interception of Coalition Reinforcements

The Coalition forces had dispatched a Lyran Dreadnaught with a Klingon E5 Escort to reinforce a starbase on the Lyran/Kzinti border. The Alliance hurriedly sent a Kzinti Medium Drone Cruiser, a Federation Drone Frigate, and a Federation Police Cutter to stop it. The Coalition forces were played by Gren, while I played the Alliance ships.

The Alliance ships rushed toward the Coalition forces, launching a massive drone attack. The Lyran DN erected three ESGs as defense against the drones. The Lyran DN attacked the KZinti MDC with a massive disruptor attack, hitting with an amazing 60% accuracy! (Statistically, only 30% was expected!) The attack wiped out the front shields of the MDC and took out a few of its phasers. The Coalition also took some damage from a phaser barrage from the Alliance ships, taking out the #5 shield on the E5 and causing some minor internal damage. The E5 retaliated, and managed to take out the forward shield on the Federation FFD. The FFD and the MDC turned away to protect their vulnerable shield facings while conducting repairs. The Federation POL pursued the Coalition ships. (This was hilarious! A little POL chasing a DN and E5! LOL) A couple transporter bombs took out the #3 and #5 shields on the POL as it gave chase. After another volley of drones, which AGAIN were ineffective against the Coalition ships due to the DN's ESGs, the Alliance ships began their withdrawal. Another attack wiped out the remaining phasers on the MDC and caused significant internal damage. The MDC self-destructed, while the other two Alliance ships withdrew.

This was a clear victory for the Coalition forces, played by Gren. Congratulations!

#2: Hydrans vs. Klingons

We had a new player join us this game, Jim. Jim and I played the Klingons. Jim played a C8 DN, while I played a D6 Cruiser and an F5 Frigate. Nick and Gren played the Hydrans. Gren had a PAL Dreadnaught (with 10 ST-2 Fighters), while Nick played an LM Command Cruiser (no Fighters).

The Klingons made a long-range disruptor attack against the Hydrans, crippling one of their fighters and doing some minor damage to the #1 shield on the PAL. Immediately thereafter, they turned to try and keep their distance from the Hydran heavy weapons. Unfortunately, they could not maintain a high enough speed for the maneuver to be completely effective due to the limits imposed by the high movement cost of the C8. The Klingons turned to face the Hydrans and launched their attack. A combined phaser and disruptor attack took out the shields on the PAL and did some internal damage. The Hydrans retaliated, concentrating their fire on the C8. The C8's #5 shield was eliminated, and the ship suffered moderate internal damage. The Hydran fighters closed distance while the PAL turned away to protect its weak shield. The Hydran LM raced up to the C8 and slapped a tractor beam on it. It took out the front shield of the C8 and caused significant internal damage, while the phasers from the fighters again tore into the ship. Meanwhile, the other Klingon ships fired into the rear shield of the LM and penetrated into the ship. Disruptor and phaser fire from the D6 tore into the LM, taking out all its phasers and causing significant internal damage, while the F5 circled around to try and distract some of the fighters. Three of the fighters engaged the F5, taking out one shield and causing moderate internal damage. The C8 suffered another onslaught and was a hair away from being completely destroyed. The LM disengaged its tractor beam and moved a few hexes away, as not to get caught in the blast when the C8 finally exploded. The C8 self-destructed while the other two Klingon ships withdrew at top speed.

The battle was an overwhelming victory for the Hydrans. Congratulations Nick and Gren. Well played!
