Game Recap from 07-14-2012

The Klingons vs. Seltorians battle was EPIC, from start to finish. The Seltorians (Gren, Nick, and I) had three Destroyers and a Scout Destroyer. The Klingons (Jim and Spencer) has a D7 Cruiser, an F5D Drone Frigate, and a D5 War Cruiser. Here's a recap:

The Klingons approached and launched a massive wave of drones at the lead Seltorian DD (me). Slowing in preparation to launch a Wild Weasel, I instead used a single transporter bomb to take out most of the drones. Meanwhile, the Klingons launched a second wave of drones. The Seltorian Scout used its Special Sensors and began breaking drone lockons. The Scout also laid several transporter bombs to prevent the Klingons from coming straight at the Seltorian forces. The Klingons began circling around.

My DD, after having suffered Klingon Disruptor and Phaser fire, stopped, performed an HET, and unloaded everything I had at the approaching Klingon D5. The Klingon D7 and D5 unloaded in return. The number of points of damage scored was nearly equal, but the smaller Seltorian Destroyer was crippled. The Klingon D5 was moderately damaged in the process. Some follow-up fire from the Klingons finished off my ship.

The other Seltorian ships circled, as did the Klingons. They traded sporadic fire as they maneuvered for good firing positions. The Klingons used their longer range Disruptors to pelt the Seltorians. The Klingons continued to harass them with drones, which kept the Scout ship busy breaking lockons, attracting drones, and using its Tractor beams to eliminate them. The Seltorians also launched several manned shuttles to harass the Klingons.

The Klingons succeeded in closing their distance (after impacting several hidden transporter bombs). Gren's DD raced up to the D7 from behind and slapped a Tractor beam on it at range 0. The D7 could not bring its Disruptors to bear, and the DD ripped into the ship with overloaded Particle Canons. The D7 was moderately damaged.

Here is where we ran out of time, and called the battle. The next turn would have certainly been an unfortunate one for the Seltorians, as the Klingons were ready to unleash another wave of drones and Disruptor fire. The battle was a Decisive Victory for the Klingons.

This was our first time playing the Seltorians, and we all grudgingly admitted that they acquitted themselves well. The battle was too close to call, right up to the end. It will be interesting to play a Seltorians vs. Tholians battle in the future...
