Star Circle Academy Pages

Would you like to learn how to make inspired images that include the night sky like those you see here? Would you like to learn the places, times, and tools needed to make those images even more compelling? Would you like to shoot on-site at some of the most eye-popping gorgeous locations in California (and beyond)? Yes?! You have come to the right place, because that is what we are about!

The Star Circle Academy™ is the brain child of Harold Davis noted San Francisco Bay Area author and photographer. Joining Mr. Davis is photographer and astronomy aficionado Steven Christenson - a winner of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year. Eric Harness is a panorama and photoshop genius, and avid backpacker, and a fun guy. Read more about the founders on "The Instructors" tab.

Between the tag team instruction of Mr. Davis, Mr. Christenson and Mr. Harness you will learn how to:

  • Prepare yourself and your equipment for comfortable night photography
  • Identify the best locations and conditions for creating powerful night landscapes.
  • Find and use some powerful, (and mostly free) shot planning tools.
  • Use the phases of the moon and the direction you aim your camera for best effect.
  • Select the appropriate equipment for successful night photography.
  • Choose the optimal exposure settings for your images.
  • Process your images for best results.

You can find more about us as well as tips and insights into night photography on the StarCircleAcademy BLOG.
