When to Be There
We recommend arriving early so you have plenty of time to get set up. If you want to follow our hosts out to the shooting location, be on site at 5:45 AM.
What to Bring
* Camera + batteries, memory cards / film
* Sturdy tripod
* Telephoto lens (the longest you have is good) - 200 mm or better recommended.
Where to Go
The preferred shooting location is a short walk from the map above, in Chrissy Field along the San Francisco Bay. Best bet is to be near the Bay along the beach in order to get the eclipsed moon as close to the bridge tower (touching it!) as possible.
Click the image below for a full size image. The area you are looking at is Chrissy Field (http://maps.google.com/maps/place?cid=597545926621226781&q=Chrissy+Field,+San+Francisco,+CA&hl=en&ved=0CCEQ-gswAA&sa=X&ei=v97WTo6ZMPLaiQK7_cnfAw&sig2=kZiK4dQXfhkdecPNCVLLGg). You want to be near the gray marker. Exactness is not important. Also note, that Chrissy Field facilities are likely to be closed including parking - so you may want to carpool. If you know that Chrissy Field will be open, please make a comment below.
Settings to Use
Will depend on conditions, but 1 second, ISO 1000, f/4 should be about right. Bracket around this to be sure to get it all right and be sure to expose at least one shot (preferably more) with the bridge properly exposed. How visible the moon will be will depend a lot on conditions, too. When it's eclipsed it will be dark - so fog, moisture, and city glow may make it difficult to get both the moon AND the foreground.
