What we're about

This is a group for those who love the stars! For beginners or experienced stargazers, we have many events that will be both educational and beautiful to experience. One fantastic event will be a boat cruise out toward Catalina Island to view amazing meteor showers, constellations, giant red stars, the Milky Way Galaxy and planets! The open dark skies of the ocean are ideal for viewing the stars, away from all the lights on land. We go out for 3 hour cruises. When the large commercial boat stops, the on board astronomer guides us through the stars and constellations with a light pointer! We will also have travel events which focus on astronomy, such as mountain top observatory trips, aurora trips and total solar eclipse trips! Come experience the stars with us!

Geminid Meteor Shower Boat Cruise!

Needs a location

Come enjoy a spectacular cruise out under the stars during the peak of the Geminid Meteor Shower! There will be a beautiful near full moon, but the Geminid Meteor Shower produces fireballs (very bright meteors) which will be easy to see! While meteors streak across the sky, your on board astronomer will use a light pointer to guide you through the constellations and show you giant red stars, nebula, planets, star clusters and more! The soothing ocean with the moon and meteors shooting across the sky will make this one unforgettable evening! We use a large commercial Coast Guard inspected vessel for this event. Other groups will be attending so this cruise will be filling. RSVP to secure your spaces! The location of this cruise will depend on the number of people, since we have different options for the size boat we will use. We will post the location when we know more. The cost is $70 per person, payable when boarding, cash only. Boarding starts at 8:30 pm. The boat returns at midnight. Thanks! ~Mark

Mount Wilson Observatory

Have you ever dreamed of looking directly through one of the largest telescopes available in the world? Now you can! Come for an amazing evening peering into the universe through the 100 inch telescope on Mount Wilson Observatory! This telescope was used by the greatest astronomers of the twentieth century such as Edwin Hubble! Even Albert Einstein looked through this telescope! Mount Wilson Observatory is in the San Gabriel Mountains, north of Pasadena California. We only have 15 spaces available for this group adventure and this will be posted in other meetup groups. The cost is only $375 per person and includes a complete guided tour, including bus transportation, observatory tour of all telescopse, telescope viewing and a laser guided tour of the constellations! We will be securing this telescope well in advance because there is very limited access to it and only by groups. RSVP now only if you are seriously interested in experiencing this incredible evening. Include the number of guests you would like to bring with you. This first RSVP is only for getting the list of the first 15 people. Once this event is full, I will then post another meetup with more details and you will have to RSVP again and make payment (within about 1 week) to secure your space(s).
