Update for Tuesdays Lean Startup event on raising funds

From: Scott H.
Sent on: Friday, February 22, 2013 9:11 PM

Hi all,

Just an update for you on the lean startup event that is coming up this Tuesday night.  We now have the panel locked down, as well as our 6 demo spots.

BlueChilli is sponsoring the event this time around, so check them out at

BlueChilli is a technology and software development company that creates online web applications and invests the software development in online start-ups – an investment strategy they call Venture Technology.

Tuesday Feb 26th, 6pm kick off

Inspire 9 (just near Richmond train station)

Free beer/wine, free refreshments, free pizza, free entry, 6 awesome Melbourne startups available for demo, plus an experienced panel with a grants specialist, an active investor, a VC and a funded founder.  Then round out the night at a local pub in Richmond.

The following Melbourne based startups will be present on the night and ready to demo to anyone who is keen.

Gary Twomey - Grants specialist

Gary is a director at IMC. IMC provides business & strategic planning services to SME companies undertaking research, product development and commercialisation projects. They assist with product development strategies and identifying funding sources.

Scott Julian - Angel Investor

Scott Julian is a seasoned Internet industry professional with years of board level business experience.  He is an active seed and early stage investor with a number of existing portfolio companies.

Andrew Fiori-Dea - Venture Capital

Andrew previously led the Australian division of MYOB for 4 years, leading a team of 250 employees.  Now he is the CEO of Future Capital, an early stage VC fund based in Melbourne. Andrew oversees the Fund’s investments while also providing operational support and mentoring to the founders and senior executives in each of the investee companies, including direct oversight of their ongoing strategic and financial performance.

Ned Dwyer - Funded Founder

Ned is the CEO and founder of Tweaky Inc, a melbourne startup that provides the #1 way to customise your website.  Ned has recently raised a round of investment from a number of Melbourne investors in order to grow and expand the Tweaky business.

Got that?  Excellent.  So come and inhale a few slices, have a few drinks, ask a question or 2 of the companies there to demo, and get ready for a kick off at 645. Don't worry if you don't know anyone else coming, as we will have greeters on the door to give you the skinny on the event, plus name tags to help you meet and greet.

The event will finish up around 830, and we will probably move to the Corner Hotel for further networking/drinks at around 9pm.
