Beginners Jam - 2nd Wednesday

Leader - Amber.  Are you have an interest in the ukulele and have wondered what this little instrument is all about?  Would you like a little encouragement and practice in forming and switching chords? These Meetups are for you!

Ukulele Jam with play for the beginner or novice. Easy songs, played slowly. Not intended to replace lessons. Practice your ukulele basics and build on the skills you already have.

WHAT YOU NEED: Please print out song sheet links below.

The Standards:

We will be playing these songs at every Beginner Jam.

Five Foot Two

Edelweiss

The Playlist:

For Jan Beginners Jams, we will stay with 2-3 chord songs:

Beginner Jam A

For mid-Feb to March beginner jams, we will try out songs with more chords:

Beginner Jam B

Finally in April, some songs with even more chords:

Beginner Jam C

We will also supplement our playlist with songs from "The Daily Ukulele.. 365" by Liz & Jim Beloff. Please bring a copy if possible.

EQUIPMENT:

ukulele, tuner, music stand

Student Ukulele Chord ChartThis is a good chord chart and you should have a copy for reference. A simpler chart too: Chord Chart for Absolute Beginners

If you don't have a uke, we have extras to share for the jam. Just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to try.

Please contact Jack through the Meetup site if you have any questions.

Thanks, Jack; I would rather continue with the current instructor I have had 2 lessons from and will still come to the jam on Wednesdays, although I will be out of town for the next one. Appreciate your concern. I do have to say, it was never played as a jam only, but rather "learning for beginners". A bit misleading, but I have a better understanding now.

this was not a beginner's class - very hard to keep up with everyone since I only just started.

Hi Carol: The Beginner Jams are not really intended to be a "class," but an ongoing practice session for beginners. SCU member Blake Mohler offers beginner ukulele classes at WSCC at a reasonable price. Click on the WSCC link on our Meetup site, or better yet, contact Blake directly via the Meetup Site. I understand that she currently needs one more student to make a full class.

It was great to see you all!

Great jam. Found out that you can also play a D chord with fingers 2,3,4, which makes it easier to get to from an A chord.

Thank you so much for the wonderful session! It was a "warming" experience on a very cold evening filled with ukes, music, and fun!

Amber did a great job of leading the Jam. We had a lot of fun, and the new beginners were very supportive.

This is what happens when I follow your instructions:

    "web page cannot be found"

To get the songs, hover the mouse over "More" above, then click Files from the menu that pops up. A list of all the SCU files comes up, and if you click "Name..." it will sort alphabetically and you can then find each file. I downloaded "Beginner Jam B" this way to see that it worked.

I'm having some difficulty also in using the links for the beginners sessions.

  • Carol

The only link above that works is the Chord Chart for Absolute Beginners. Can you help with this?

    March 12, 2014

  • Martha R.

Need to get faster to keep up with the tempo
