  • Lunch Enroute To Soirée

Everyday Gourmet & Fine Food Merchant, LLC

Some of us are stopping for lunch at a great restaurant we discovered last year on our way to the Soirée. The Everyday Gourmet at 204 W. High Street in Ebensburg, PA has great food, great service, and very hospitable owners. It is just off of the main highway route to Altoona, and easy to find. We plan to arrive there about 1 PM on Friday, May 3, and stay until about 3 PM. You can come at 1 or you can come later. Note that there is a wonderful antique emporium just across the street if you arrive early, or want to visit after lunch. I recall that there was also a music store nearby. Please RSVP so that we can tell the restaurant how many to expect.

  • The Quiet American: Aaron and Nicole Keim workshop

    Wilkins School Community Center

    $30.00

A SCU First: the Keims are coming to Pittsburgh! On their way to Altoona's Uke Soiree, they will be stopping by the Burgh to share their uke knowledge with us! They will play a few songs immediately after the workshop. Chords Up the Neck (All Levels) You have all those frets, but you seem to be trapped on the first 3! We don't have to be crazy virtuosos, but it's pretty easy to learn some new chord shapes higher up the neck. These new positions will make your songs more interesting and challenge you for a lifetime. We will also take some of this knowledge and harmonize some simple melodies. We will also learn about how music theory supports this idea, but don't worry, it wont be scary! Tickets are $30 and you can register on Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/aaron-and-nicole-keim-uke-workshop-tickets-57150362272 You can buy tickets at our WSCC meetups in advance--cash only but you would avoid online fees. (RSVP on this site does NOT register you for event--you must pay through Eventbrite.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bios: No stranger to the ukulele world, Aaron has been teaching ukulele techniques and performing at festivals since 2004. As an educator with a bachelor's degree in Music Education and a master's degree in Musicology, his true talents lie in his ability to adapt instruction to fit a wide range of learners and learning styles. Aaron is an ambassador for old time folk music in the ukulele world, adapting banjo and guitar techniques to the ukulele (including playing in the "clawhammer" tradition). His YouTube instructional videos have gained a worldwide following and have led to teaching and performing opportunities in N. America, Europe and Australia. Aaron is also a luthier, building instruments for Mya-Moe ukuleles[masked] and as Beansprout Musial Instruments from[masked]. www.thebeansprout.com Nicole earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Music Education and taught K-5 elementary school music for nine years in the public schools while living in Colorado. She sang professionally for several years with the nationally recognized Ars Nova Singers and has taught private voice and piano lessons to students of all ages since 2002. In 2012 (after moving to Oregon), Nicole took a sabbatical from teaching elementary school in order focus on her fiber arts business and to perform and travel with Aaron as The Quiet American. She has taught several singing workshops and has developed a passion for teaching beginning ukulele instruction to adult learners.
