The Lion - original version, written by Solomon Linda in 1939

Song was titled Mbube, Zulu for lion. Linda sold it for a pittance and received no royalties. When he died, his wife could not afford a headstone. The song, in its various incarnations, has made millions. His descendants have recently started getting royalties, after an investigation by a white South African journalist, Rian Malan.

Love it! What a shame for Solomon Linda and the Zulu. Thanks for posting, Elizabeth!
