All About That Bass Base – Baselining SQL Servers
As SQL Server DBAs, we can agree that baselining our SQL Servers is an essential task as part of our job function that we should all be doing on a regular basis. It provides us with valuable metrics to compare over time about how our SQL Servers are performing with the resources that they have under their given workload. In this session we will delve into the options for collecting baseline metrics and also look at a free tool to help analyze those counters once they have been collected.
John Baldwin is an Enterprise SQL Server Database Administrator at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his IT career which began in 2000 he has worked with SQL Server starting with version 7 all the way up to the current version as a SQL Developer, DBA and Database Architect. He is active in the local SQL Server community and has been President of Steel City SQL, the Birmingham Chapter of the Professional Association for SQL Server (PASS), since 2008 and has organized or co-organized 10 SQL Saturdays in Birmingham and Atlanta starting with SQL Saturday #7 back in 2009.
