How did the other games go Cyclades, Firenze And the chicken game did john win any? I thought I heard John say he narrowly beat Tony C in Firenze by pulling out a killer card, cool!

No I narrowly beat Andrew, though it wasn't some unknown/sneaky card - it was the 5 point bonus card that I got for being the first to finish... it just didn't get counted until the end.

Cyclades was good fun and as Trish said, lots of good laughs along the way. Unfortunately Duncan took us all to the cleaners! That said it was done it such a nice way that none of realised he was carving us up like the proverbial Christmas turkey so we didn't mind in the slighest! Note to self, that was one darn fine strategy!

Great evening played study in Emerald (the rules of getting a place in the game are like being in a que in the barbers, some kind of code of being next in line.) I was able to unleash my inner revolutionary and attempt to defeat the old ones, stated the Russian revolution, assassinated an old one (masquerading mufti of Turkey) but Dan and the 2 others Tim & Tony kept the old ones in charge. Long live the restoration!
We then had 2 games of no thanks.

To be fair I think the really good restorationist cards were hiding at the bottom of the pile. The only other thing you could have done is start taking cities earlier. But (based on the whole 2 games I've played) when to take cities seems a bit of a difficult thing to figure out.

Played Study in Emerald again and didn't come last! Gave my usual excellent rules explanation during which, out of the two who hadn't played before, Paul wandered off and Shaun didn't. Paul beat me and Shaun came last. Hmmmmmmm. The game is great fun but far too full of distracting shiny things for me to ever be good at it. By the time I've stopped going "Oooh, I want one of those" somebody is about to win! Last night it ended up between Tim and Dan (both loyalists) with Dan edging Tim out despite my last gasp attempts to slow him down. Paul did admirably as a Restorationist (the more difficult faction IMHO) in his first game but was disqualified as his teammate, Shaun, was in last place. I was second last. Hmmmmm. Then we played Geschenkt, the cheapskate's original German version of No Thanks. It takes two minutes to set up and explain and 10 minutes to play with a good bit of agonising decision making so a winner in my book. Unlike me. Think Dan won both of these as well. Hmmmmm.

Not sure I'm coming tonight as it clashes with a local Ware meeting. But if I do come along, I've got Firenze which looks very interesting, without being too long...
