Had a great time- @Henry/Tony I'm hoping that Phil will show me the ropes of X-wing so I can play a game next time, as it looked great fun! Was lovely to meet a few more people!

Had a blast playing Cosmic Encounter! Went for the "oh I'm just a peaceful pacifist join my righteous cause and HELP ME ANNIHILATE THE ENEMIES!" technique. Worked quite well ;-) and good fun getting burnt to death yet again by the most harsh game of Fire Point I've played but we clawed our way out of the ashes in the second round with some good specialist skill use. A quick Q, there was mention of a group that meets in Ware? Is that a public group or kinda a private group of friends? Only asking as I will be absent for a while and my poor husband will be without car and without gaming buddies for a few weeks :-( so is effectively stuck in Ware with not very much to do

sucks I had to miss this one, how was cosmic encounters?

    August 2, 2014

    • Tony A.

Tbh, in this situation Granny and the dog probably need saving but if anyone is smart and agile enough to sort themself out it's the cat. If it was there and you didn't try and save it, though, you can bet it will never forgive or forget..........mrrrowwww!

I'm glad you liked it- happy to bring it again if anyone wants to use it- though I will make sure to check the box is organised next time (that'll teach me for letting my pesky husband pack it away!)

I'm tempted to bring Steam down. Not sure I'm in the mood for Eclipse. What other games are people bringing?

wow, 12 minutes to go and we haven't lost anyone to last minute man flu...

      August 1, 2014

    • Paul H.

Doesn't exist that man flu it's just flu, actually proper influenza is pretty debilitating so any one who gets it has my sympathy. "Man flu" is a derogatory phrase used because apparently men make fuss when they have a snuffle, though I have seen many of support office staff, female start planning a week off after a sneeze. And my old line manager would come in to work with what sounded like the plague! So it doesn't exist like Johns second name!

Well, my new look was an obvious success so I will continue on this tack at Asda and will be adding fine art tones to the evening by severing my own ear with a razor at some point. On to the games! I helped Henry and PlusOne (I'm sorry! I'm a bad man with names!) set up X Wing and confused them with a poor rules explanation even by my standards. They struggled on and, I hope, enjoyed it. I leapt into a 6 player game of Spartacus, which I hadn't played in ages, and ended up winning it for the first time! Then we moved onto a few rounds of Mascarade which I enjoyed more than the last time I played. I think playing it with fewer people helped, although it may just have been having the previous play under my belt, but I felt I was actually participating rather than just being along for the ride. Finally, I got to play Kakerlaken Poker Royal which I've wanted to try for a while and which was a really fun, simple, bluffing filler with great, colourful art. Thanks to all for the fun games.

Yeah, it could of been the Eurogamers v. Wargamers, a duel to the death and I got caught by the pip shrapnel off an exploding dice....curse those wargamers! Unless I was on their side of course.....hmmm...... And you could always follow your new habits, John, and buy cockroach poker! ;-)

      August 2, 2014

    • john

no, I was quite good at that - so don't want to jinx it.

      August 2, 2014

  • john

So we managed to get in a game of Spartacus, a couple of games of 5 then 6 player Mascarade (confusing bluffing card game) and a couple of games of 6 then 7 player cockroach poker (more bluffing). There were at least 3 other games running, of which I saw x-wing, cosmic encounter and a few others...

(earlier comment should have said "was NOT much fighting")

      August 2, 2014

    • Tony A.

A sneaky victory in Spartacus? Sounds like I have all the glory. ;-) I did feel a bit dirty playing it like it was actually a strategy game rather than a good way to try and irk and cheat my compatriots but I just kept getting influence giving intrigue cards. No money ones and no reactions til the last round. I did enjoy graciously giving Andrew an influence for just one gold......then taking two for myself as I had the least influence....oh and then another couple just for good measure....and oh, look, good Solonius has won!

Good times playing Sparticus, Masquerade, where you lie a bit, and Cockroache poker where you can lie a bit too, I also learnt that no body believes me. " dead eyes" indeed!!!

Note to Mark: 16 meeples attended. 1 free, and 15 paying £2.00/ea. Plus TA payed the £2.00 from previously, and TG payed £4.00 from previously, ad DP payed £2.00 from previously. Sooo... £38.00 collected and miraculously everyone is back up to date.

Looking forward to it, I don't get to come often enough! If anyone wants to play any particular one of my games, let me know and I'll bring it: http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/spookypeanut?own=1&subtype=boardgame&ff=1
Otherwise I'll bring a random selection.

Might be worth bringing Tsuro - that's a good filler or end of evening game.

      July 31, 2014

Hey, you know what game we haven't played in ages and everybody loves...? ECLIPSE! Who's got a copy...?

    July 14, 2014

I'm up for eclipse but will bring some other games as well.

      July 31, 2014

Oh, and I would love to try out X-Wing miniatures if there's space and if someone wants to bring it...

    July 28, 2014

    • Tony A.

I'll try to remember to bring my x wing stuff - dunno if I'll end up playing it as there are a bunch of games I wanna play (as usual) but there are a few "veterans" around now so you may get a game!

don't worry, we're experts at that - CYLON!

I can see cockroach salad and cockroach soup, hopefully they're not the snacks this week.

  • David J.

    On holiday unfortunately

    July 5, 2014

    • Tony A.

You should play Luna, Paul. You get your own group of fanatics in that and lovely points for building them shrines or getting them sanctified. Just steer clear of The Apostate - he's a bit like Filch in the Harry Potter movies and you don't want him catching you.......

      July 27, 2014

    • Paul H.

I need to play "Here I stand" the player who plays the Pope has an excommunication card and you can burn characters at the stake for heresy!

      July 28, 2014

  • Paul H.

So since the only game I own anybody at this club anyone has wanted to play and played is RftG I am bringing that. Oh er I think someone wanted to play descent I have it but the I have read the rules up to page 5!

Anyone fancy a game of ghost stories/cosmic encounter?

      winning?

      July 21, 2014

when playing with real people is a rarity keeping a fun game going is an aim & an achievement, sad I know!

Erm, should probly put this in the discussions bit of the group but, y,know, nobody ever reads that now do they! Just thought I should give props (cos I'm down with the kids........of about a decade ago) to LostArkGames. They now have an outpost at Stevenage Indoor Market. I ordered online, then picked up an X Wing ship from them a couple of weeks back and passed the time of day with the very friendly gentleman who staffs the stall. Today I returned (possibly for another ship - couldn't possibly say til after my next game against the evil empire!) and paid for my purchase, had a chat with the guys there (same gentleman who told me his name and I am now unsure of what he said because I am bad, old and quite possibly senile) BUT he obviously remembered enough about me as, I noticed afterwards, he gave me the 10% SBC discount without me asking! Friendly FLGS, check. :-)
