The Caring Cupboard program needs teams of volunteer drivers to make grocery deliveries to home-bound and economically vulnerable seniors. Our program delivers free nutritious, tasty food to over 200 people each month.
We need teams of 10 or 20 drivers from each participating organization.
We ask volunteers show up between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm. First time volunteers are shown a brief orientation video that lasts about 15 minutes, then you would be given a packet with the names of the seniors you’ll be delivering to, their addresses, and driving directions. You would be delivering to between 3 and 5 seniors. You drive to their homes, give them their groceries, and perhaps take a couple minutes to chat with them. (Most of the seniors really enjoy the company! ) Usually the deliveries take about an hour, but they can take a bit longer if you volunteer to take a delivery route in Nashua.
Please note that you need to have a valid driver's license and your own transportation in order to participate in this volunteer opportunity. If you don't have access to transportation but still want to help, contact Melanie Burger to make arrangements to carpool with another volunteer.
