Brixton Market comprises a street market in the centre of Brixton, South London, and the adjacent covered market areas in nearby arcades Reliance Arcade, Market Row and Granville Arcade (recently rebranded as 'Brixton Village').
The market sells a wide range of foods and goods but is best known for its African and Caribbean produce, which reflect the diverse community of Brixton and surrounding areas of Lambeth.
Brixton is the place to see. It undergoes gentrification and you can photograph young middle class mixing and co-existing with the local African and Caribbean community. It's a remarkable mix. Everything is photogenic, from the decay to the sheer exuberance of colour and street style.
We will walk through the market and arcades and work on assignment that will help you to create the unique story of Brixton Market. The workshop is suitable for all levels. The assignment will help you to learn and practice Aperture and Shutter speed priorities modes and composition technics.
Please make sure you wear comfortable shoes, warm clothes, have water and snacks. Please bring your lenses, cameras with charged batteries and empty memory cards, tripods, small change.
At the end of the tour we will settle down at Boxpark for drink and nibbles.
