What we're about

Playing Out is a scheme where the residents of a street decide as a community to apply to close their own road to through traffic more regularly to allow children to play out in the street.

In 2019 there was a successful Playing Out in the district of St Albans with 11 streets taking part in Harpenden and St Albans and we are delighted to be launching this for 2020 across the whole of St Albans City and District.

This is a group for people to talk about their enthusiasm for Playing Out, street parties and street play. Come along whether you're experienced or just starting out.

If you’ve thought about Playing Out or holding a street party but don’t know where to start, here is the chance for an informal chat with some people who have done it before.

Discussions will include consulting your neighbours, filling in forms to apply and how to physically close a road. Why not come with a neighbour?
