This group started some years ago actually, but as people come and go, we find we'd like to grow some more again so this page is to try to get word out that we're a chamber music group here in the South Sound area getting together to play our instruments and explore music. Our core group is six string players, three of whom play a second instrument; but often due to work and other factors, we can't all meet on any given Friday - but we're very informal and we agree on what music to play based on the choices of each person present that evening. We meet in homes around the Steilacoom area to play classical and movie/game/theme music, on Friday evenings. Piano is available in several of our homes, including a Yamaha grand piano. Because we meet in private homes, we don't make our information public about where we're meeting but if you'd like to come play, please correspond with me. Because we meet on Friday evenings, our "roadies" come along too and we always have plenty of food because most of us count that as dinner!
How good do you need to be? Well, you want to know how to read music for your instrument, and we usually start with pretty easy things to warm up, then get into more challenging music as the evening wears on. We ask people to be committed to growing as musicians if they have been very rusty or are just getting into their instrument. Some of us have benefitted greatly from taking private lessons to improve our playing. Others have crossed over from other instruments, so we all appreciate the learning curve involved. If you're really good at your instrument, you are welcome to help grow our group, but realize we're purely amateurs; we all have day jobs we won't be giving up! Parents and teens who both play are welcome too; we're a family oriented group. If you play a clarinet or other instrument that needs transposition from what the strings and flute and piano play, you would need to be undertake to do that for yourself - programs like Finale can help with that.
(Because we also have email communication going on between our regulars, it's not always apparent from this site how many people came out for music, but most Fridays we have at least 4 people, and somewhat frequently 6-8. But when we only have 2 or 3, we still have music to play and we can always go into duet or trio mode! )
Come play classical and themed music on Friday evenings!
