Range Shoot, then Pancakes - Private Range

Let's shoot for about 90 minutes. We'll have pancakes at Princeton Restaurant Pancake House afterwards.

Due to popular request, we've rented Range 4 privately for this event. The great thing is that this gives us an open range, holster draws, rapid fire, etc. However, this also means that I require payment of 17 dollars from all attendees, as the $200 range fee has already been paid. We should break even with 12 people - any extra money will go towards swag or other paid events. If you have a conflict with Meetup payment, please contact me (Lesley) to pay by PayPal or check.

Let's give this a try and see how people like it.

Article II range does have guns to rent for about 20 dollars if you do not have your own.

It was less actual range time than usual but it was great to help all the new shooters

    2 · August 12, 2013

    • Lesley

At least one every few months for beginners. We can have people volunteer to assist.

Actually Michael's support is a great added value to our meetups, both for new shooters or people like me with little experience but far from being an expert. On top of that, he has that few instructors have: real tactical expertise.
Our group need that to improve, and I hope we don't become just a social group to make new friends (going by our last conversations, I think we found common ground on this one).
I would be happy to find ways to compensate the triger time missed, and thankful for receiving good and solid advice.
It was great to see you all!

Saw a huge sign for article 2 on North Avenue south side of the street west of Glen Ellyn Road. Any idea what that's about?

    August 10, 2013

    • Michael

That kid their advertisement I believe

      August 10, 2013

    • Lesley

Hopefully they're advertising. That would be a bit of sunshine, this year.

  • Michelle

I'll be coming back and can meet you for breakfast. Can you call me and let me know when you are heading to the restaurant?

    1 · August 8, 2013

    • Lesley

Great. Now I'm texting random people about guns. This will end well.

      1 · August 11, 2013

    • Michelle

That's the good thing about actually calling a person, you have a better chance of knowing if you're dialing the correct number. And if it doesn't go through the first time, check the number you dialed. Neither of the above numbers are correct.

For all you 9mm ammo searchers (probably everyone), I found a location that has a lot WITH NO PURCHASE LIMIT. It's Gat Guns in West Dundee. 115 grain FMJ is going for $16.99/box, and should have inventory for at least 2-3 more days. Act fast.

Anyone know of where .22LR can be gotten at a reasonable price?

What do you think of using this Meetup board as a "Guess what I found?" while we get through this ammo shortage? Good (ammo) hunting.

    Robert

    August 9, 2013

    • Lesley

The limit is 'stupidly expensive', which I would put somewhere over 20 dollars / 50

      August 10, 2013

    • Dave B.

We all have our limits by the time my ammo can is filled with spent brass I will be a happy reloading monkey. My only question is 115 fmj or 115 lead. I am studying that choice now

    New @ this
I do not own a firearm yet So I will have to borrow or rent. Including range fee, ammo, and resturaunt after. How much do you think this will cost? Sorry but I'm new and this is my 1st event with you and I'm just trying to budget. Thank You for any info you could give me.

Didn't think it would be a problem, but I will not volunteer people. Glad to hear things are shaping up.

Since the RSVPs have been closed on Meetup already, you can pay at the event, or you can paypal me directly at your convenience.

      1 · August 10, 2013

  • Dave B.

Includes shipping. Figure tax on a box of ammo when you buy it here. Plus shipping gets less when you buy more.

    August 10, 2013

  • Phil

@Lesley--I still don't know if I can make it tomorrow. If I get to go, can I just pay you cash? Thanks.

    August 10, 2013

  • Robert B

Can we arrange a range shoot that starts later in the day, sometime?

    August 10, 2013

    • Lesley

Robert, I alternate Saturday nights and Sunday mornings every month. Do you mean you cannot do Saturday nights and you want a Sunday instead?

      August 10, 2013

  • Timothy G

Is anyone bringing a Glock on Sunday? I am looking to pick one up and am trying to decide if I want a 19 or a 23. Any other suggestions for other handguns to try out before I "pull the trigger"? It will be my first Semi-Auto handgun, but I am not a stranger to larger calibers. I want something that I can eventual use for a CCW.

    1 · August 7, 2013

    • Timothy G

It was 24.99 for a box of 50. They had Remington and Blazer. All FMJ.

      August 9, 2013

    • Michael

These days anything less than 50¢ a round is worth checking out it feels like

      August 9, 2013

  • Mike

If I can get it cleaned up in time I might also be bringing #20 Sunday. I picked up another Mosin-Nagant 91/30. This one has the preferred hex receiver. I am thinking of making it into a PU Scoped Sniper tribute. This will take a while as the scope is a lot more than the rifle costs. For some reason my friend and I name out Curio & Relic firearms. So this sniper rifles will be named "Roza" in honor of Roza Shanina. She was quoted in saying "The essence of my happiness is fighting for the happiness of others"

Good news my team didn't make the playoffs so that I can make it. Having some trouble with PayPal but I will make it.

    August 8, 2013

    • Lesley

I switched you on the list. Just pay me in cash if that is easier.

      August 8, 2013

    • Michael

Thanks, I will have it for you sunday

      August 8, 2013

  • Timothy G

Are we still on for this Sunday? It looks like we only have a small handfull of people...

    August 6, 2013

    • Timothy G

Well I will be there for sure. If you need everyone to pitch in an extra $5 each I don't think we would mind, especially since the normal price is $21 or so after tax.

      August 7, 2013

    • Michael

I believe that once we work out the kinks... The paying in advance and range four will work well for the group

I am going to get certified as a NRA Pistol Instructor at GAT. Hopefully that will allow me to teach the IL CCW classes.

    3 · August 1, 2013

Hell I need NRA classes just so I can go to some tactical meets.

      Happy to oblige team members.

Bringing Buckmark for Lesley and Sue. Also GSG 1911 w/ laser. Modified Ruger 10/22, Smith & Wesson M&P AR15-22. Those are all 22LR. Two 9mm and a 1911. Maybe the Mosin too.

I'm low on 22lr so if you could buy your own that would be awesome.

Oh yeah, Bersa Thunder 380. My newest one too.

    1 · August 7, 2013

My son and I will be there. Will pay then if that is ok. I might have two more adults too.

    August 7, 2013

  • Mike

I will try my best to be there. But I have my sons. One is really not into guns, one is so-so. I will try to invite a few friends to help recoup your loss. I think the time was a bit of a problem too.

    August 7, 2013

  • Lesley

Yes, this is still on. I'm getting the idea that our experiment is not a success and people are more comfortable paying at the range than on Meetup in advance. If you have not paid yet, you are welcome to show up and give me a few bucks on the day of the event. Just leave me a note here so I know how many people to expect.

    August 7, 2013

  • Sue B.

do people have to have foid cards to shoot? if not, i could bring a friend perhaps...

Working on a duty trade. Can't pull a vac day. Too many off.

      Sorry to hear. Next time!

      July 23, 2013

Looks like I am going to need to order another couple thousand rounds!

    June 27, 2013

Should be a good time. We'll have more space and more freedom to do stuff.

      June 27, 2013

    • Timothy G

I have shot in this range before and it was nice. Very open and well lit compared to their stalls.

      July 12, 2013

  • Kelley M.

Unfortunately I will just be coming back from vacation. Sounds like a great time with the reserved room. Hopefully the next one though.
