Happy New Year, Veggie Friends!

Mundelein, IL
Hello Everyone!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your participation in the Suburban Chicago Vegetarian Meetup group. It has been a great year for us with vegan potlucks, bake sale fundraisers at Countryside Unitarian, volunteering events with Feed My Starving Children, VeganMania, and lots more. I hope that those of you who have attended have enjoyed these meetups, and if there are any of you we haven't met yet, please join us soon!

One of the main reasons I have felt welcome in this friendly group from the very beginning is because of our amazing original Organizer, Melissa Patricelli. Knowing that my husband Colin and I were new to Illinois, she immediately invited us to join her for a canoe trip down the Fox River one chilly Fall morning. She quickly became one of our dearest friends, and I am happy to say we have shared many delicious vegan meals together since then. Melissa moved to Hawaii for more tropical adventures in December, and she will be sorely missed. Thank you, Melissa, for everything you have have for the Suburban Chicago Vegetarian Meetup group!

If you are new to the group, it is set up so that anyone can suggest an idea for a meetup. If enough people like the idea, then it automatically becomes an event. We have members spread out all over the suburbs, so hopefully this way we can have a wide variety of activities and locations, allowing more members to join us. If you have any questions about hosting a potluck, restaurant outing, or any other activity, please let me know.

I hope this finds you well, and I wish you a healthy, happy 2013!

In other exciting vegan news, there will be a new vegan cooking show, How to Live to 100, hosted by Jason Wrobel on the Cooking Channel. You can read an interview with him about the show here. If anyone in the group has access to this channel, maybe we can have a viewing party!
