Hike #11B Western Corridor Hike Series of the Florida National Scenic Trail

Where: Hernando County Park to Silver Lake.

Meet: Silver Lake Recreation Area, Croom Rital Road

Distance: 9.25 miles - linear.

Pace: Strolling and quiet for the first 1.5 miles. 22-25 minute miles for the remainder.

The first part of this hike is through a little traveled area with EXCELLENT birding. We had wild turkeys in front of us on the trail and saw many, many other birds on a recent trip. This area also includes a gorgeous boardwalk style foot bridge built by a group of college students with the help of Tom Hogan, Ted and Neil.

We will follow the FNST out of the Hernando County property into the Withlachoochee State Forest and along the well-known Silver Lake Trail.

We'll meet at the Pavillion at Silver Lake and shuttle to the park on Ridge Manor Blvd. where our hike will begin.

What to bring: 2.5 liters of water, lunch and snacks. Optional: sunscreen, bug spray, binoculars.

Great group of hikers, nice trail. The River Trail, which was part of it, is one of my favorites.

The group of hearty hikers had a nice - and not too hot - day in the sun. Perfect weather. Great to meet a new hiker today - welcome Vanessa! Nice to have Thom along for a rehab hike. And always lovely to have our regular cast of characters along - including our two newest FTA members - Alex and Cain. Thanks Alex and Arlene for sweeping the way and everyone - for joining me in a stroll along the river.

Some scenic spots to view the Withlacoochi river and a few benches along the way to rest the weary feet; a bit sandy though; but another well organized and fun trek by our Elizabeth, she rocks! Good to see some new faces and some familiar trail mates...

Well organized by Treehouse Yoga. Started right on time. Shuttle was easy. But due to county forest work, removing trees, we were unable to hear/see birds & had to move rather quickly 1st mile as well as the last 8 miles)

I was thinking of camping up that way as well as I live in Bradenton.

We are just packing up & bringing kayaks for this afternoon. Our cell is[masked] if you need to call (assuming cell service). By the way, enjoying your book. Arlene - hiking name "PINKY" lol
