FNST Western Corridor Hiking Series - Hike 1b

Western Corridor Hiking Series  Hike 1b  Old Hunt Station to Eaton Creek TH

Join us for the first section in the 2nd Annual Western Corridor Hiking Series!  We'll begin in the Ocala Forest at the Old Hunt Station, just north of where the Florida National Scenic Trail splits into Eastern and Western corridors.  Want to guess which path we'll be taking? :-)

Wed. Oct. 23  Leader: Amanda Hus (Suncoast)

Meet: Eaton Creek Trailhead

Time: 8:30a.

Distance: Short - 6 miles, Long - 11.5 miles

Directions:  From the intersection of SR 40 and CR 314, east of Silver Springs, drive north on CR 314 for 8.4 miles, passing the junction for CR 314-A. Turn right at NE 170th Ave, which has a prominent sign for the FWC Youth Education Camp and a Florida Trail sign. Continue a half mile to the trailhead on the right.

Location: [masked]  [masked]

Carpooling:  If you would like to carpool, please post as a comment

We'll meet at the Eaton Ck. TH and shuttle to the start of the hike.  We'll need to know whether you'll be hiking 6 miles or 11.5 miles when you arrive - to do a proper shuttle.  Please bring at least 1 or 2 liters of water - depending on the distance you've chosen  - lunch and snacks.  Sunscreen and bug spray are optional.

    See ya tomorrow morning!
Don't forget PLENTY OF WATER, lunch & snacks, bug spray.
I plan to wear cool, loose fitting clothes to help keep from overheating. Any hats should be WELL VENTILATED.
Of course candy is always appreciated! ha ha.

OK, I don't have any proper footwear. Maybe what I think is a hiking shoe isn't what others here recommend. (on a tight budget..Can anyone give me some advice as to what type of shoe I should get? There's the hiking part, there's the water issue, maybe snake issue. What's the most common type of shoe? Send photo if you have it to [masked]. thanks.

I usually wear running shoes or sneakers. Here in Florida that's all you need. Nothing fancy, nothing expensive! For the rest of your clothing, its usually rather warm (hot), so wear a cool and light colored shirt. But again, nothing special, nothing expensive. Probably something you already have!

Not an expert but I see most wearing running shoes on the trails here. If you're ever in Orlando I do find really good deals (75%off) on trail shoes at Columbia and recently found 60% off at Gander Mtn but it's probably more than is needed for around here. Thick socks would be good to have.

Hi this would be my first hike with this group and considering the long hike. I'm a newer hiker. Before I commit I'd like to know difficulty level? Would we be walking through water? Trail highlights? Someone would be dropping me. Off where should they pick me up and what time would we be there?
