Saturday morning 8:am - Alan Bailey will conduct a field lesson in Land Navigation.
Land navigation, is the study of traversing through unfamiliar terrain by foot . Land navigation includes the ability to read maps, use a compass, and other navigational skills. (wiki)
"For the land navigation session, you will need a base plate compass with declination scale, either fixed or adjustable (recommended). This type of compass is available online, and at local stores, including some of our outfitter advertisers, and many other sporting goods, and camping, fishing and hunting equipment retailers. Simplest is best - you shouldn't have to spend more than about $20.00 - borrowing one is even better (as long as you return it in good shape)."
Questions on equipment requirements... please contact Alan at:
[masked] or via our Meetup site email...
Bring 2 liters water, a couple of pencils, and prep as you would for any of of our warm weather hikes. We will be in the sun and trekking through the brush for a few hours. This activity will require a high level of physical fitness.
Chapter business meeting will be around or just after lunchtime on Saturday the 17th.
We will do our traditional Friday night pot luck, Saturday hot dog lunch at cost of $2.00 per person, please bring a dish to pass for lunch
and we will be having Sunday breakfast. (Those who stay for Sunday breakfast, please throw a couple of bucks Sue's way as she has been bringing eggs/bread, etc on her own dime for all these breakfasts for a couple of years)
You do not have to be an FTA member to participate in any part of the weekend. However, if you regularly enjoy our activities, we would appreciate your support by way of joining the FTA.
