What we're about

Sunday Assembly is for people who would like a church-like feeling that includes fellowship, sharing, and the opportunity to help other people, independent of religious faith, if any.

The primary event is the Sunday Assembly service which takes place every month on the third Sunday at 11 AM. It consists of songs performed by the band, a reading (usually a poem), an interesting talk that fits into "live better, help often, or wonder more", a moment of reflection to carry forward, community announcements, and a take home message. Pre-pandemic we also had a potluck lunch following the Assembly for people to stay and mingle with one another; now we keep the zoom session open for socializing. We're hoping to soon get back to in-person!!!

To be added to our email list where we send the zoom link, please send your email to: Sundayassembly32601@gmail.com - you'll get the zoom announcement a few days in advance, plus the night before. It's always on the 3rd Sunday at 11 but you'll need the zoom link to join. Or RSVP "yes" in Meetup and you'll get the link through that channel.

The Sunday Assembly:
1. Is 100% celebration of life. We are born from nothing and go to nothing. Let’s enjoy it together.
2. Has no doctrine. We have no set texts so we can make use of wisdom from all sources.
3. Has no deity. We don’t do supernatural but we also won’t tell you you’re wrong if you do.
4. Is radically inclusive. Everyone is welcome, regardless of their beliefs - this is a place of love that is open and accepting.
5. Is free to attend, not-for-profit and volunteer run. We ask for donations to cover our costs and support our community work.
6. Has a community mission. Through our Action Heroes (you!), we will be a force for good.
7. Is independent. We do not accept sponsorship or promote outside businesses, organizations or services.
8. Is here to stay. With your involvement, The Sunday Assembly will make the world a better place.
9. We won’t tell you how to live, but will try to help you do it as well as you can.
10. And remember point 1... The Sunday Assembly is a celebration of the one life we know we have.

Live Better: We aim to provide inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people to live the lives they want to lead and be the people they want to be.

Help Often: Assemblies are communities of action building lives of purpose, encouraging us all to help anyone who needs it to support each other.

Wonder More: Hearing talks, singing as one, listening to readings and even playing games helps us to connect with each other and the awesome world we live in.

There are usually about 25 people at our Sunday Assembly Zoom meetings. Come join us, and if you like what you see you can provide your email address so you'll be directly invited to other events, many of which are not posting on this public Meetup page.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list (external from Meetup) just send a "add me" email to: SundayAssembly32601@gmail.com

Sunday Assembly (SA) is a secular humanist organization that began in London, England and is now in at least 10 countries. This is the meetup group for SA in Gainesville for people of all ages. If your personal relationship with a higher Spirit, if any, has prevented you finding a church where you fit in, then Sunday Assembly may be for you. It's fun, energizing, and is a great place to meet others. Everything you ever loved about church without the fire and brimstone!

Our first event was Sunday, January 17, 2016 and we now meet every 3rd Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to come join in the fun and hear an inspirational talk, some live music, sing along, get inspiration, and enjoy a potluck after the Assembly.
