Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley #6: Honoring our Makers
May 11th, 11:00am, San Jose Women's Club
May is the month of Maker Faire, and Assembly day on May 11 is Mother's Day. So, what better way to spend the morning than to honor our own makers - our mothers.
This month we combine the maker spirit with the power of women in our featured guest, robot startup evangelist Andra Keay.
Andra’s talk will be an interesting combination of Maker Faire and Mother’s Day. ... Ever wondered why robots are sometimes creepy and most times ugly? Could that be why there are so few women in robotics? What do robots designed by women look like? What could new robotics look like as materials become 'more organic’?
[Andra has been running science, computing and robotics workshops since 1995, with a focus on empowering people to adapt to changing technology. She founded Robot Launchpad (an accelerator for robot startups), and is the Managing Director for Silicon Valley Robotics. She also cofounded Robot Garden, a space for makers and hackers with an interest in robotics.]
Shannon's daughter will do a reading and Bonnie will do her best. An exciting bonus is that Gillian, who attended the SA General Assembly in London on May 2 - 4, will host and present some photos and highlights from the conference. Of course, we will sing some great songs accompanied by the dazzling Sunday Assembly Lovely Hearts Club Band.
Children’s activities will be provided for the younger members of the congregation. Of course, afterwards there will be tea and cookies, and time to chat.
What there won’t be is any reference to deities or dogma. Everyone is welcome.
Come and join us in an entertaining and enlightening Sunday morning. Bring your own Mother, or Mother equivalent!
PLEASE LET US KNOW YOU ARE COMING, and RSVP here on Meetup. WE ARE ALSO GOING TO SHARE LUNCH AT THE SAN PEDRO SQUARE MARKET, AFTER THE ASSEMBLY. COME TO THE OUTSIDE PATIO AT AROUND 12:30pm.
