Mindfulness Meditation

  • to
  • This location is shown only to members

  • The purpose of this group is to support each other in developing (and continuing!) our own mindfulness meditation practices and, in a more general sense, to actively build community, one of the core features of Sunday Assembly.

Each week, we have a 30-minute mindfulness meditation session, but it's bookended by lively discussion of our own meditation experiences and topics like self, existence, the nature of intimacy, relationships, and many other things.

We also have a tradition of eating dinner at Desta Ethiopian Kitchen (at the corner of Briarcliff and Clairmont Roads) after we meet. Everyone is invited, but attendance isn't required, of course.

While there are many (too many?!) resources for those who are new to mindfulness meditation, here are a few that folks in our group have noted as having been helpful to them:

If you're concerned about not being able to meditate for 30 minutes, please don't let that stop you! You can meditate as much or as little as you want during the 30 minutes and then just quietly daydream until time is up and we'll never be the wiser. :)

Finally, if you'd like to post something to share with members of this group or discuss mindfulness meditation as a secular practice (or see what some of us had to say on such topics in the past), join us in the Sunday Assembly Atlanta Community Forum:

We try to use that forum for providing/requesting interesting information/resources because Meetup's comments leave a lot to be desired in terms of threading, searchability, persistence, etc.
