BODY PRAYER is a Sunday morning weekly 5Rhythms class. The music, slowly builds and then comes down again, and is called a 'wave', like on the ocean: flowing (continuous movement, where the body unravels and undulates), staccato (a beat comes into the rhythm and we can find more percussive ways of moving), chaos (where the music becomes more active and the body can release, shake and soften into letting go), lyrical (where we are able to lighten up and expand our movement into the space, a little or a lot) and finally we drop into stillness (a meditative state, where we are able to rest, move and be). There is a range of great music from around the world. As you move, follow how the music comes to you and you connect to the music.

It goes through Gabrielle Roth's practice: 5Rhythms®. It guides us through a landscape of many terrains, where we can navigate, finding news ways of connecting with ourselves, another and in community with others. When the teacher invites you to take a partner, you have a choice as to whether you want to do this. Always listen to what nourishes you in the moment. There is no right or wrong way of moving, just your way. So sometimes this might be with a partner, in little groups, or solo. It is a journey of discovering new possibilities.

Movement is the simplest way of getting out of our heads, so we can drop back into the moving wisdom of our bodies, so we can tap into our own creativity, expression and power of being YOU. Helping us to come home to the essence of who we are.

There are usually two waves in a class. The first through a warm up, slowly encouraging our bodies to move for around 30/40 minutes. There will be some guidance invitations from the teacher, or very little, and this is a time for you to warm up your body, listening to finding ways of arriving back into your body: stretching, yawning, finding gentle movements, luring your body back into movement.

There will then be a second wave, that might have more guidance/invitations or not, each class is different. On the 1st Sunday of every month, there will be a Sweat Your Prayers, when there will be NO instructions throughout the class.

You are encouraged to listen, and follow how your body guides you. Following your body wisdom and letting your body rise and fall. So always listen and follow how YOU need to move. Never push yourself, but NEVER hold yourself back. Follow! Follow! Follow!

Please bring loose clothing to change into, so you can move with ease, as it's always good to change back into your everyday clothes. Bring a water bottle. There is a water fountain to fill up. Bare feet, or dance shoes, but NO outdoor shoes.

Time: 11.30am -1.30pm Sunday at Acland Burghley School, Dance Studio One, Burghley Rd, London, NW5 1UJ. This is a family friendly class..Nearest tube is Tufnell Park (3/5 mins walk). Sometimes this goes out of sink, so please check.
