Join fellow bluegrass musicians and singers for an old-time jam session, playing together in a comfortable setting at the Sunnyvale Community Center. We meet in the Heritage Park Building, near the apricot orchard. When the weather is nice, we often play outside, so non-musicians are welcome to wander by just for a listen!
All traditional bluegrass instruments (guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, fiddle and dobro) are welcome. Other acoustic instruments may be included with song leader approval. No electric or amplified instruments, please. Music selection includes, but is not limited to, bluegrass standards. As is traditional for bluegrass jams, participants take turns as song leader, announcing the song selection and harmony, if any. No instrumental or vocal instruction is provided. Participants must be able to tune their own instruments and play at a basic level. Each session begins with 30 minutes for tuning and orientation reviewing generally accepted bluegrass jam guidelines and rules for newcomers.
Open to musicians ages 18 and up, ages 13-17 okay with parent or guardian.
Cost is $5 per musician.
Facilitated by Paul Carignan and Sue Newberry.
