ABOUT THE HIKE: This hike is a 4.8 mile loop through the beautiful 6,000 acre Laguna Coast Wilderness. Starting at the ultra modern Nix Nature Center, we hike up Little Sycamore Canyon on a single track trail.... south along a truck trail on the Serrano Ridge.... back down the Camarillo Canyon Road.... to Stagecoach Trail north back to the Nix. This is an advanced beginner hike that "enjoys" approximately 800 feet of elevation gain/loss. This loop samples the rich diversity of the wilderness, including interesting geological rock formations, open pasture/meadow lands, oak shaded canyons, and expansive ridge line vistas. Dogs are not allowed within this wilderness area. Restrooms are available at the Nix.
HIKE TIME: 2 - 2.5 hours PICNIC TIME: one hour
ABOUT THE PICNIC: Following the hike, we will enjoy a Sunday Brunch picnic at tables next to parking at the Nix Nature Center. Please bring food to share for the potluck. BYOB (beverage). While this may be an alcohol restricted area, we will exercise adult discretion and Fifth Amendment rights against self incrimination.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the San Diego (405) Freeway, exit onto the Laguna (133) Freeway that turns into Laguna Canyon Road.... drive south two miles to the entrance for the Nix Nature Center.... turn right into Nix parking area. The parking lot opens at 8 AM. There is a $3 fee for parking, with the Orange County Park's mechanical ranger taking one dollar cash or credit cards. Your OC Park's Annual Pass will work at the Nix. Please plan to car pool and arrive early as parking at the Nix is popular and limited.
