    33.585803 -117.744676

  • GPS address is 2 Silkwood. Meet at the park gate on corner of Canyon Vistas and Silkwood.
  • ABOUT THE HIKE: Come join us for a morning intermediate level hike on the beautiful Wood Canyon Trail in the Aliso and Wood Canyon Wilderness Park. This hike is approximately 6.5 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain/loss. The hike begins creekside along the shaded Wood Canyon Trail. We branch off of on several other trails including Acid Run (steep), Wood Creek trail (steep) Coyote Run, Nature Loop (steep), Mathis Canyon (very steep) to the West Ridge Trail near the Laguna Beach "Top of the World" to a descent on either Cholla Trail or Lynx trail and back to the trailhead. The hike will take approximately 2 1/2 hours. This is an intermediate level hike not suitable for beginners as we will be climbing several steep hills. Dogs are not allowed in this Wilderness Park.

PACE: Medium. We will wait at the tops of all hills for everyone. No hiker will be left behind.

ESSENTIALS: Bring plenty of water, sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat. This time of year it can get a bit chilly from the ocean breezes so plan accordingly. Good hiking boots and trekking poles are encouraged.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Please know your limits. Mathis trail is very steep and about a mile long. Some of the smaller side trails, and there will be at least 2 on this hike, are narrow and rocky single path trails with some sharp ascents and descents.

AFTER THE HIKE: We can stop at Panera Bread (26541 Aliso Creek Road) or Brueggers Bagels (26921 Aliso Creek Road) both about 1/2 miles from the trailhead for a post hike celebration with coffee and treats.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From the 5 Freeway, exit Alicia Parkway. Take Alicia parkway (towards Laguna Niguel ) about 1 1/2 miles to Pacific Park. Turn right on Pacific Park and go about 1 1/4 miles to Canyon Vistas. Turn left on Canyon Vista and go about 4 blocks to the end proceeding to Canyon View Park on the left. There is street parking.  There are usually many cars parked in this area so observe residential street parking restrictions.
