Hike to Gray's Peak overlooking the North Shore of Big Bear Lake

ABOUT THE HIKE: This is a 7 mile round trip hike with 1,200 feet of elevation gain/loss to Gray's Peak (elevation 7,900 feet). The route takes us out and back on single track and truck trails through pine forest with vistas of Big Bear Lake and surrounding mountains. Expect to see mountain bikers and other hikers on this popular, dog friendly trail. Plan to hike as a group with a sweep and stops at trail junctions to regroup. We will take a rest stop at the peak to enjoy the view and a potluck lunch picnic. Total hike time will be approximately four hours.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From O.C., take the 57 Freeway north... take Interstate 210 east... exit on highway 330 to route 18 to Big Bear Dam... bear to the left and continue on North Shore Drive... before the town of Fawnskin, turn left into the trailhead parking lot or use overflow parking at the Grout Bay picnic area across the highway. An Adventure Pass is required. Restrooms are available at the trailhead.
Update on parking: The Grout Bay picnic area parking has been closed. There is additional parking on North Shore Drive, with sections that allow parking and sections with "no parking" signage. Please plan to arrive early to secure parking and walk to the trail head.
