ABOUT THE HIKE: This is a three mile advanced beginner hike to three of the major hiking attractions in the Big Bear Lake area. We will meetup at the parking lot for the Bluff Mesa Campground. We will then hike to the Champion Lodgepole Pine and the nearby Bluff Lake. The Champion Lodgepole Pine is 450 years old and the world's tallest at over 110 feet. The Bluff Lake Reserve is located at an elevation of 7,600 feet and features towering pines, a 20 acre lake and a protected mountain marsh/meadow complex. We will then take a single track trail approximately two miles round trip to Castle Rock with scenic and expansive views of Big Bear Lake. Following the hikes, we will return to picnic tables at the campground for a picnic lunch before heading back to the town of Big Bear and home. These hikes are dog friendly.

ABOUT THE PICNIC: Following the hike, the food and beverage items for our potluck lunch will be coming from cars parked at the campground. We will be using picnic tables and a pit toilet located there.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From O.C., take the 57 Freeway north... take Interstate 10 east to Running Springs... take State Highway 18 north to Big Bear Dam... turn right and continue three miles... turn onto Tulip Lane... turn right on Mill Creek Road (Forest Road2N10)... continue approximately 4 miles... turn right on Forest Road 2N 86... turn left on Forest Road 2N 86A and proceed to the campground. These are dirt Forest Service roads; the last three miles is a rutted, single lane road. Parking at the camp site is limited, so please car pool.
