This hike will take us through the wooded center of Lake Forest via the Serrano Creek Trail. Our objective is the "Troll Bridge", a footpath that crosses Serrano Creek. Along the way we will pass under roads four times, hence the name. After the Troll Bridge, we will backtrack to Nature Park where we can run our dogs off their leashes for a few minutes before starting back to Wahoo's.

DETAILS

DISTANCE: The hike is about four to five miles. The way out is downhill and the way back is uphill.

DIFFICULTY: Easy. Our early start will enable us to avoid the worst heat of the day.

GEAR: Bring a hat, ample water (2 bottles recommended), a snack, and appropriate hiking shoes. Photographers might want to bring a camera to capture the views. Trekking poles are not needed because most of this path is paved.

FACILITIES: There are no facilities, so please go to the bathroom before you go. Hikers wishing to have a snack before they go may stop at Sunrise Bagels or coffee at Starbuck's. Remember that you have to pack your trash.

PETS: This is for the dogs!

POST-HIKE: We can brunch at Wahoo's if it is open or grab a bagel at Sunrise Bagels.

DIRECTIONS: From the 5, take Lake Forest northeast about 5 to 6 miles to Portola Parkway. Turn right on Portola Parkway. At the second light, Glenn Ranch, turn right into the Wahoo's parking lot. Park in the lot across the way from Wahoo's near the office buildings.

If you are using the 241 Toll Road, take the Portola Parkway exit (not the Irvine one -- watch for the Whiting Ranch Wilderness signs) and make a left. At the first light -- which is Glenn Ranch -- turn left into the office and restaurant complex.
