DISTANCE: 4 miles R/T (Challenging)
ELEVATION GAIN: 1000 Feet
DURATION: 3-4 Hours (This depends on skill level and time spent at waterfalls).

DESCRIPTION: Three Sisters is one of the few hidden gems in San Diego with a tiered waterfall only known to those willing and adventurous to seek it out and experience it on an "unofficial trail". This is one of my favorite waterfall hikes and you will have so much fun on this adventure. The series of falls is reached by a quick 2 mile descent into the canyon that requires the use of ropes that are along the trail along the steep sections. It is steep in these sections so grippy hiking boots or trail runners are highly recommended! The ropes can seem intimidating at first, but all of those that went last year had a blast! This is a cardio hike for sure! Don't let the short distance fool you. Are you up for the challenge?

Once we reach the falls, we can spend time there, rest, swim, and enjoy a lite lunch, snacks. It is imperative you bring a minimum of 2-3 liters water per person! This is a strenuous hike at times and you don't want to run out of water. The bottom fall is a natural waterslide, the second fall is a shallow bowl with small waterfall. The top fall is the best with a deep pool of water underneath the largest waterfall and great for cliff jumping or swimming. The top fall requires a bit more work to reach and there is a rope to reach the top. It is worth seeing!

DIRECTIONS: I highly recommend printing directions on Google Maps before you leave for this hike. Cell phone coverage can be spotty to no service available depending on your provider.

From Interstate, exit Highway 79 (the Descanso exit) and drive north. After 1.3 miles, turn left on Riverside Drive. Continue 0.6 miles to the main crossroads (post office, etc.) Of the hamlet of Descanso. From there take Oak Grove Drive 1.6 miles to the intersection of Boulder Creek Road on the right. Follow Boulder Creek Road north for 13 miles ( the first half is paved and the rest of the way is a graded, unpaved road) to a hairpin turn where unpaved Cedar Creek Road joins from the West. Park anywhere on the road near the Three Sisters Waterfall trailhead taking care not to block traffic on the road.

MEETUP TIME: We will meet at trailhead at 8:00 a.m. We will begin hike at 8:30 a.m.
