ABOUT THE HIKE: This is a relaxed, two mile, flat, loop stroll on well maintained trails within the El Dorado Nature Center in Long Beach. Following this one hour hike, we will have a lunch picnic across the street in the El Dorado Regional Park.
ABOUT THE EL DORADO NATURE CENTER: Owned by the City of Long Beach, the nature center is a 105 acre oasis of natural habitat that offers visitors the opportunity to escape the surrounding urban environment. Over two miles of dirt and paved trails wind around two lakes, a stream and forested areas. Across a wooden bridge on to a small island, we find the Visitor Center that contains educational displays, a art gallery, and gift shop. The vehicle entry fee will be five dollars for our Wednesday visit. Pets are not allowed within the Nature Center.
ABOUT THE PICNIC: Following the hike, we will take our picnic items from the Nature Center and caravan cars across the street to picnic tables in the city park. Please bring food to share for our potluck lunch. BYOB (beverage). As this park may be alcohol restricted, we will exercise adult discretion.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: From Orange County, take the 405 freeway north.... past the 605 freeway, exit Palo Verde Avenue.... turn right on Spring Street.... turn right at the Nature Cener entrance.
