Fellow Sunrise to Sunset Hikers,

Join your hiking buddies for a midsummer celebration of our amazing hiking group. This is an invitation to our entire ten thousand member hiking community and an opportunity for us to come together to dine, dance and generally celebrate our "good hiking fortunes." Space for the DINNER/DANCE at Fratello's Italian Restaurant is limited so please RSVP ASAP. You will find the link to the event below:

Why do we say "good hiking fortunes?" Well we are closing the month of July having added approximately 380 new members and having hosted approximately 2,800 hikers at our events. This makes us the most popular and active (not the largest) Meetup hiking group in the global Meetup system. One of the several reasons why we bring more hikers to the trails is simply because we offer more hikes. At the time of this writing, we listed over 400 upcoming Meetup events. That is important to you as a member because you have a greater diversity of hiking events to fit your exercise schedule and hiking ability. It is an amazing hiking group being led by an equally amazing cadre of over thirty active event organizers. We thank you!

Let's use last Saturday as an example. We put a day hiking group on top Mt. San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California... another backpacking group peaked Mt. San Jacinto, the second highest peak in Southern California... other Sunrise hikers took the Catalina Flyer for a loop hike out of Avalon... we explored secret stairs and trails around the canals of Naples... and two other groups did local day hikes in both Whiting Ranch and Salt Creek Beach. All that happened in one day!

Let's put this activity in perspective as to why we are the most active and popular hiking community in the global Meetup system. Hiking seems to be Meetup's most popular activity with over 9 thousand Meetup hiking groups that have over 9 million Meetup members. The largest of these Meetup hiking groups is out of New York with almost 30 thousand members; they list 94 upcoming hikes on their calendar. The largest hiking group in Southern California is located in Los Angeles with over 23 thousand members; they list 103 upcoming events. The largest hiking group in Orange County has just over 15 thousand members; they list 118 upcoming hikes. And then there is Sunrise to Sunset Hikers with over ten thousand members. So we can compare, these 94/103/118 upcoming events with the over 400 upcoming events listed on our Meetup calendar. It's not just that we have more events. We are getting more people to the hikes because they are designed to be FUN. Our hikes often include a social opportunity for some well deserved food and beverage that rewards our "good hiking fortunes." The past couple of years have been a hiking "field of dreams" with the faith that if we build it they will come. You have indeed come!

It's not about the numbers. And it's not really about the hike. It is ultimately about YOU, the wonderful people that are coming to our hikes. It is about the personal transformations that we see occur within the thousands of individuals that find outdoor adventures, improved fitness, and new friends within our Sunrise to Sunset hiking family. Our members may initially come for the hike, but we come back to be with our hiking buddies. That is why we are celebrating this "field of dreams" with a MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM gathering.

If you are one of our Meetup members that have been touched by our "dreams," we hope you will join us for our MIDSUMMER celebration. Collectively we are a truly amazing hiking community.  Hope to see you Saturday evening, August 12th, at Fratello's.
