Super Awesome Gamer Parents of Las Vegas is a group for parents who are looking for the best of both worlds -- fellow parents to game with without having to find a babysitter. Our goals are to give parents an opportunity to meet other like-minded parents and have a space to indulge in tabletop gaming together; and to give the kids an opportunity to socialize and make friends (and eventually learn to game!).
Membership: Members must have one or more children. Members must attend a Meet & Greet session in order to be eligible to attend a Game Night. Meet & Greets will be held at least once a month in a public space. Members who have not attended any events with 6 months of their join date will be removed from the group. Meetups: We host Game Nights 1-2 times a month. Game Nights are hosted at member John Chinnock’s home, which accommodates both parents and kids. It is located at Sahara & Town Center. Game nights will be held there unless otherwise noted. We will be playing various kinds of tabletop games and enjoying potluck-style food and drink.
We intend to keep the group small to facilitate relationships and consistency, however, multiple hosts/groups are a possibility. I am open to having co-organizers (please contact me if you are interested in being a co-organizer).
If a second groups starts, an alternative to one host/location is having two meetups at the same time: one will have half the parents (no kids) for a game night and food/drinks; the second will have the other half of the parents and the kids and food/drink (can break up into smaller groups too depending on age groups or number of children). The parents would alternate groups each meetup.
Organizer Bio: Hello! We are Jennifer and Antonio, and we have a 3 year old daughter. We moved to Las Vegas in 2008. We are shy introverts who like video games, tabletop games, sci-fi & fantasy, podcasts, science, and quoting our favorite movie lines at both appropriate and inappropriate times. We've found it difficult to connect to others with our interests in this sprawling, crazy city. This became even more difficult after having a child, despite the fact that it is imperative to provide socialization for her development as well as for our own well-being. This is our first time doing anything on Meetup.com, and we've never done anything like this before either! We hope to create a supportive, fun, nerdy, and geeky little community where both parents and kids can make friends and share interests. We are open to suggestions, and we expect that the group will evolve and change as we go along and get to know each other! We hope to meet you soon!
