What we’re about
“Sandwich Saturdays!” is an outreach group for the homeless, that meets twice a month to help those in need. There is no religious or other affiliation; just average people that find enjoyment in helping others in a difficult situation.
How It Works:
We'll meet along side of the Albertson's grocery store at the listed address, where we'll set up and prepare food for an hour or so. Once everything has been prepared, we'll break things down, then walk around and distribute the food items and other supplies as a group for another hour or so, or until the supplies run out.
** The food and other supplies are provided by the members themselves, with the main items being bread, peanut butter (creamy if possible), jelly, lunch meats and cheeses, water and soft fruit. Toiletries too, which can include toothbrushes, razors and female products. Cookies and other treats are also very much appreciated.**
There is an Albertson's where we meet, as well as a Smart & Final a block away. You can also opt for any of the value-oriented stores such as 'The 99 Cents Only' or 'Dollar Tree' to get a little more mileage out of your dollar, and then just bring it with you.
Free parking is available under the Albertson's grocery store, which is next to where we set up. There's also a trolley stop within a couple of blocks as well, if needed.
“If you wait until you can do everything for everybody, instead of something for somebody, you’ll end up not doing nothing for nobody.” ~ Malcom Bane

See all- Distribute Food To The Homeless!Albertsons, San Diego, CA
Hello Everybody,
Please try to put what you will bring this week here. We meet in front of Albertsons on 14th Street.
We feed the homeless around downtown on Saturday evenings. This involves walking several blocks, but we have opportunities for those with disabilities to help. (Please reach out ahead of time and we can make accommodations for you.)
We are not affiliated with a church or organization and our members are secular, religious, and atheist. Everyone is welcome! We hand out food, water, and various supplies with no expectations or requirements in return.
Kids are welcome to come help! Since we are working with people with mental illness, drug addiction, and living in a stressful environment expect bad language, people in various states of awareness (high, unconscious), and sometimes yelling. We have yet to see any violence, but of course, there is no guarantee. There is a large group of us for safety and we expect anyone who is part of our MeetUp to stay with the group at all times. Please don't fall behind and let someone know if you're "running up the street to get that one guy a sandwich." We stick together.
