Meeting time (trailhead) 7:30 ralson peak trailhead

Distance 13 miles

Elevation Gain around 4100 feet.

Difficulty, strenous, for regular advanced hikers only!!

Meetup Fee $1

Parking free

****Closed hike , you need to answer the questions which come up when you Rsvp and go on the waiting list. ***

you should have done similar hikes lately, this is not a beginner hike, and you should **not** make this your first sierra hike!!

I will be picky who to add to the yes list,

Group limit 12 (wilderness regulations)

Route

we will start the hike with a long climb to Ralston Peak about 4 miles and 2800 feet, we descend then towards the PCT *** I do expect to see snow on some of that descend through the forested area there****( and about 200 feet elev. gain) We cross the PCT and go cross country (off trail, bouldering etc.) up Keiths Dome (around 300 feet elev. gain) from Keiths dome we descend towards Lost Lake and go to triangle lake, **I do expect to see some snow on this descend*** from triangle lake we have around 200 feet elevation gain, a trail starts at the lake *** there might be some snow on this part as well*** we make our way to the PCT and turn left, make our way along the lake to the parking lot.

******IMPORTANT THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW , before you even think about signing up.******make sure to read it all*****

** SNOW** is a good possibility on some segments on this hike.

 **there may be "post holing"

** caution needs to be exercised when stepping  from snow onto rock and rock onto snow, watch for hollow spaces, use a hiking pole to check if you have doubts that the snow will hold up.

****Boulder fields / scree fields / off trail hiking*****

here are some links to pictures, we go the opposite direction on this hike (note, if you browse through the entire album, there are pic's of areas we don't go to, like horsetail falls)

You should have hiked under condtions like this!!

trailconditons,

rocky, slippery, muddy, off trail hiking, snow, boulders, rocks, etc...... a little bit of everything,

Group Effort!!   Unlinke most of my hikes I have to insist that nobody goes ahead, (at least most of the time), since I have a certain route in mind, and once we hit the snow the trail will be most likely disappear.

I am also planning on (maybe) not following the trail all the way to ralston peak, I would like to try the route towards cup lake and then turn left to the peak.

Gear

**   waterproof shoes (or socks ) are recommended ( a few muddy areas and possible snow  to walk on ) or at least extra socks if you don't mind wet feet for a while.

** hiking poles are highly recommended as they help  you on the snow.

** sunglasses, sunscreen.

**food, water, dress in layers

*** you should have hiked in the mountains and know what to bring

bug spray, we may get some mosquitos in the morning and evening.
