Guest Speaker, David Fairhead will be talking about and showing clips from the making of the documentary Spitfire, due to be released on 1st April 2018 – the 100 year anniversary of when the RAF was formed. David is an award-winning freelance film editor, cutting documentaries for both television and the cinema. In 2006 he edited David Sington’s film In the Shadow of the Moon, a feature documentary about the Apollo astronauts, which won the Audience Award for best International Documentary at Sundance in 2007. This was followed by The Flaw, an analysis of the 2008 financial crash, which also premiered at Sundance. In 2011 Members of Surrey Border Movie Makers were part of the crew for his short film ‘Long Journey Home’. On Friday 2nd March he is coming to give a talk to the club about his latest film Spitfire of which he is a producer as well as co-director. Surrey Border Movie Makers was formed 34 years ago so it is not simply a Meet Up start up group. We are a social film making club in Farnham, Surrey and we extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in any aspect of film and video making. We have 45 to 50 members. Our membership extends to people of all ages from 14 up 90+. Our members have a wealth of ambition and experience, some of whom are or have been professionals in film and television. Many members work individually, but for those who enjoy working with a team, there are opportunities to participate in all aspects of production, from initial concept development and scripting, through to the shoots and also editing and post production. No equipment is necessary.
The policy of the club is that your first visit is free. If you come more than once you can either join the club or pay £4 at the door. However, we do have running costs of hall hire, so if you do come to one of our meetings we would suggest a £2 donation which will help towards the cost of this and refreshments. Annual membership is £40 and includes tea/coffee, or £58 for a couple. Students in full time education (with proof) pay £12 or £1 at the door per visit. We meet on the first Friday of each month, at The St Joan’s Centre, 19 Tilford Road, Farnham, Surrey GU9 8DJ. Just 200 yards south of Farnham Station. However this year the May meeting will be on the second Friday.
