Welcome to the study group that places 2,500 years of teaching smack in the middle of Manhattan. Sutta and the City is the study group that just may change your life. Buddhism has a rich and long tradition of helping people improve their lives, live more wisely and compassionately, and with a greater degree of ease. Examining the Buddha's actual teachings can help us develop a more skillful way of life. Join a group of like-minded individuals to explore how these ancient teachings can inform and improve our modern lives. Appropriate for all Buddhists or Buddhist-curious!

Want to live a more skillful, easeful life? The suttas provide an instruction on how to attain a more satisfying, compassionate way of life. But what is a 'sutta?' 'Suttas,' are transcriptions for the actual teachings that the Buddha gave over 2,500 years ago in India. We can learn a great deal from these teachings, even in our modern era. Join us as we discuss what each teaching has to offer us as 21st century New Yorkers. Some meditation experience and knowledge of Buddhism is helpful. Still, whether you are Buddhist, or just curious about Buddhism, these learning and discussion sessions will offer much by way of wisdom. Time: 6:30-8:30pm When: 1st and 3rd Monday of each month Where: Private home in West Village--RSVP for location! What to expect: We will begin the session with a 20-30 minute meditation followed by brief introductions. We will set up the historical backdrop in which the sutta takes place and explain important themes and provide context. Group discussion will follow. Each session will include discussion a pre-selected sutta, so please make sure to RSVP and contact the organizer for a link to the text(s) and specific directions!
