What we're about

Our club was established in 1931 amidst the surge of interest in walking and the outdoors in general. The club has endured, adapted and prospered. It remains faithful to the original aims of enabling everyone, from all walks of life, to enjoy walking, in good company and in some beautiful areas.

You can leave your car at home, as we travel to and from the walks by luxury coach, operated by Skills. We walk every other Sunday, whatever the weather, usually in the Peak District and surrounding areas. The only day when a walk would not be scheduled is if it fell on Christmas Day. Leave your car at home and relax. We welcome everyone to this friendly club. Come along, make new friends and enjoy healthy exercise in beautiful locations. Our members range from 20 to 70 plus years old. We have about 80 members at the moment. In summer the walks are usually about 11 to 14 miles and in the shorter winter days, about 9 - 11 miles. For people who feel they can't do that length, we are normally able to offer a shorter alternative. The latest time that all walks finish is 6.30pm (that is the time the walk ends and not the time you will be back in Mansfield or Sutton). In summer we operate a free monthly evening walks programme in the local area. We have very few rules and regulations. The club prides itself on its flexibility and freedoms. We are an independent club, run by members for the benefit of the members. The only rule that matters is that everyone enjoys their day out with the S.R.C.

You are welcome to attend twice before your need to become a member. Membership is just £7, valid until the end of January of the following year.

We have convenient pick-up points in Sutton and Mansfield. The coach fare is £10 for adults and free for juniors (16 years old or younger, who must be accompanied by an adult). There is no need to pre-book, just turn up on the day. We are sorry, but dogs and pets are not allowed on the Sunday walks, but are allowed on the summer evening walks.

Deep Dale

Deep Dale The club begins its summer ramble programme with an attractive 10 mile linear walk in the White Peak. We will enjoy a variety of scenery including three villages and three contrasting dales. There should be the usual shorter walk option.. New members are always most welcome. The walk starts from Ashford in the Water, crosses the A6 and follows the footpath by the River Wye and through Great Shacklow Wood. Emeging from the wood we turn south west and walk the entire length of Deep Dale The last section of the morning heads across field paths to the picturesque village of Monyash. This is a great location for our lunch stop with a choice of café or pub for refreshments and also seating on the village green for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we continue south to link up with Cales Dale and on to one of the highlights of the day when we ramble through the very beautiful Lathkill Dale. We leave the dale to walk up to Over Haddon village and finish this lovely walk across field paths to Bakewell where there should be time for more refreshment before departing for home from the car park by the agricultural centre at 5.30 pm.
