What we're about

Welcome to Swami's Team Fun !

Our goal as a group is to grow the positive vibe in the cycling community, with a specific focus on building support for the women’s cycling community. We ride "for the love of the ride", and whether you are a beginner or a seasoned rider, we have the riding group for you. We love variety, adventure, and challenging each other to new accomplishments through support in a non-competitive environment.

Join us for our group rides. We offer three guided group ride levels, and all rides are regroup:

Advanced: Fast-paced, longer rides generally >40 miles with average speeds on flats >20 mph and average pace times over hilly routes >15 mph. Minimal stoppage times, less frequent regrouping.

Intermediate: Moderately-paced, mixed length rides (30-50 miles) with average speeds on the flats in the 16-18 mph range with emphasis on building climbing skills, not necessarily hammering those hills. Set stoppage points and time-lengths to allow for differing speeds, but will be limited to keep the pace.

Beginner: Slower-paced, shorter rides (25-35 miles) with average speeds in the 12-15 mph range with an overall emphasis on building riding skills: using your gears, pacing, riding safely in traffic. The Beginner rides are always “no drop” meaning the group will wait for those who are falling behind.

Friday Coffee Ride - North direction

Gelson's Market - La Costa

This is the most relaxed ride we offer. Starting point will be at Gelson's in La Costa. We head north to Oceanisde, where we enjoy a coffee stop at Revolution Roasters. Round trip is about 20 miles, and route sticks to the coast (flattest ride we can do!). Open to any riders looking for an easy paced Friday ride to work out the kinks before the weekend. This is also a great opportunity to meet other Swami's/Team Fun members, if you are new to the group and hesitant about joining on a Saturday. Non-members and new members are especially welcome.

Valley Center/Bonsall Ride with Optional Art Exhibit Stop (C,D)

For this month's hill challenge, we will head east on some of our favorite classic inland roads, including Jesmond Dene, Circle R, and West Lilac (C group). The route is a little longer than normal, but will be stunning after all the rain. The return trip is a little creative (i.e., no Melrose involved). C Route: 54.6 miles, 4100' https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29510198 The D group can opt for the longer route above, or utilize this somewhat shorter version that skips Jesmond Dene and Circle R, but returns via Warmlands. D route: 46.4 miles, 2800' https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29513721 Both groups will have the option to stop at The Fire Garden: San Diego artist Kathleen King in collaboration with metal artist Tony D'Aula will host a public preview of the 26’ x 10’ x 10’ metal sculpture “The Peloton Takes the Cucamonga Curve” on display outdoors at Tony D'Aula's beautiful Fire Garden in Bonsall before the sculpture is transported to Rancho Cucamonga to be permanently installed on a public corner in the business district. Stopping is optional, but should be a great time. (Note: There will be no E group this week)

Swami's Morning Ride - C Group

NW corner of La Costa and El Camino Real

Beginning in south Carlsbad, this classic Gene Kelley route starts north along the coast, then heads inland for some short climbing challenges. For this ride, the coast portion is conducted as a double paceline (2x2), but is not a circular our rotating paceline like done on the B group. When the pair on the front are done with pulling the group they will rotate off, allowing the next pair to move up and pull the group. If you don't don't want to pull at all, just stay at the back of the group and allow people to shuffle through rotations in front of you. No one will fault you for it. The ride regroups at the end of Carlsbad Village Drive after turning right onto College, and after turning right off Faraday Avenue onto College. This ride is conducted at a Swami's C group speed: approximately 18-22 mph on flat ground, with overall averages in the 16-18 mph range. Suggested for Team Fun Riders comfortable with the fastest Team Fun Group, or those in the front of the D group (women's intermediate group) looking for a challenge. The route is the same each week. I suggest familiarizing yourself with the route and having it handy in case you get separated from the group. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27835287 22 miles, 1831' For riders who ride at the front of the C group (advanced women's group) and are experienced with rotating pacelines, you may want to try the Swami's B group, which is the second group to leave. Order of rides: A (Pro & race pace ride) leaves at 6:30. This is one of the fastest rides around. B (Race/Fast paced ride) leaves shortly after around 6:32. This is probably also one of the faster rides around, but doable for experienced riders (averages 18+ overall on a hilly route). Swami's C leaves shortly after B, around 6:33. This is a great tempo/interval workout and would be considered an advanced women's ride. Social: Meet at La Costa Coffee afterward for coffee with the group.
