Swift Society Launch Party
WELCOME TO SWIFT SOCIETY We are kicking off this community with a Swift Society Launch Party. We will be hosted by the awesome team at Avenue HQ. There will be two talks, drinks, tasty food and time to connect with the iOS community. On arrival, please come and introduce yourself to one of the team - we don't bite! ------------------------- What’s the plan? 6:00 Open for arrivals 6:30 Welcome 6:40 Talk one 7:00 Q&A 7:10 break 7:15 Talk two 7:40 Q&A 7:50 Social --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talk one: Playing with Fire(base) on iOS Firebase has been coming on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, helped along by its acquisition by Google back in 2014. Now adding Fabric to its list last year, it’s set to be the go-to solution for application back-ends. This talk will provide a walkthrough of these features, and how you can utilise them best to really compliment your iOS applications. Speaker: Niamh Power Niamh is an iOS and Android developer, working at the Novoda office in Liverpool. From the North West originally, she has worked at several companies in the area, and also runs the local GDG Liverpool group as well as the Swift Society. A particular aficionado of Firebase and all things Google, she spends her time learning and sharing how these technologies can also help iOS developers, and expand the possibilities of our applications. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Talk Two: Protocol Overload Swift provides some great functionality that's new to most iOS developers like advanced enums and complex protocols. Sometimes it can be too easy to get carried away with using the latest tools rather than writing the best code. I'll talk you through an example of how I stumbled into such a situation. Speaker: John McKerrell John McKerrell has been developing for the iPhone almost as long as it has been possible and has at various times had over 50 apps live in the app store. Since getting into Swift 2 two years ago John has been totally won over (even dreaming about Swift at times). He currently works for Axon Vibe developing advanced transit apps and SDKs to enable seamless travel worldwide.
