Swift Bangalore Chapter #9 - Declarative traits, App State Restoration and more
Hello Swifters!! We're back with Chapter #9. However, before we head on to topics, here's something for you. If you haven't joined the vibrant Swift India community yet on Slack, here's how you can do that; Step 1: Visit - Step 2: type your email id and invite yourself to join the party Step 3: That's it. No step 3. Say hello to awesome Swift India community On to Chapter #9 topics now, the meetup will be taking place at Practo. #1: Declarative `traits` in Swift Speaker: Vatsal Manot Agenda: A talk on how Swift’s excellent generic parametrization capabilities can allow one to create declarative, type-safe interfaces to model complex scenarios in a scalable manner. This talk will use filesystem APIs as an example target for improvement. Bio: Vatsal is currently working as an iOS engineer at DocTalk. Having adopted it early-on over four years ago upon initial release, he is passionate about pushing the limits of code architecture and design with Swift. He has spoken before on declarative programming and code philosophy, and continues to explore new ways to utilize the language to its full potential. #2: App State Restoration - The underrated one Speaker: G Abhisek Abstract: You are reading a wonderful blog in an amazing news app. Suddenly you got a call and chilled out with an old friend on the other side for a long time. The app got killed meanwhile. You disconnected the call and returned back to read your blog and wait …… “Oh No! I lost my blog and now am at ground zero :disappointed: . Hope my app could have been more intelligent.” *App State Restoration* is the one feature which would help your users to avoid this situation. Let us discuss App State Restoration in iOS in detail and how can it make our App to be stronger than before. *Bio:* Abhisek is an iOS Engineer at OLA and Speaker and Writer at SWIFT India forum. He is a passionate developer and learner. Loves to share his experiences of development via blogs and talks. This is his second talk at SWIFT India. You could have a glimpse of his works at and reach via his twitter handle #3: How we increased our dev productivity by decreasing build times. Speaker: Rohit Pal Abstract: It takes time to freshly build a swift app with large code base. This talk is all about how we reduced build time in our Practo Pro App (~800 swift files) by more than half for fresh builds and about 80% for incremental builds for developers. At first, we did it by tweaking existing build settings within the app itself which gave us a slight advantage. However, we majorly achieved this by modularizing the app for each of our product offerings and letting the developer load only their module during development resulting in quicker turn around time. Bio: Rohit Pal is a Senior developer @ Practo. He has worked on multiple initiatives on their doctor iOS app, some of them being full stack. With prior Android experience as well, he loves to explore new things on both the platforms, compare them and learn best practices across both and apply them to the other. Do’s & Dont’s - ID proof (Mandatory) - Carry a Govt issued identity proof : Voter ID / DL / PAN / Aadhar / Passport - Parking - Available -- See you there!!! Join us on Swift India Slack Group -

This meetup is primarily for people interested in anything related to Swift Programming Language for iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS. Our members include both professional programmers and interested hobbyists: those who program for a living, those who are working on side projects, and people who are doing it just for fun.

We exist primarily so that people who have something to share can share it with others and people who have questions can have their questions answered. Everybody can learn in the exchange.

Mostly, our meetings are informal gatherings where people can ask specific questions or show off their work. Developers may give presentations about apps they have worked on, showing how they made it or talking about their various issues. Each meeting, we will also try to focus our discussion around some specific topics relating to iOS or macOS or tvOS or watchOS development.

So, if you are an iOS or macOS or tvOS or wathchOS developer, working on a project, or just curious about making software, please feel free to join us!
