SydPHP Phunconference 3.0 - December 2012

Hi folks, we're really excited to announce the third annual SydPHP Phunconference will be held on Thursday the 13th of December starting from 6.30pm.

Google has very kindly provided us with the use of the Google Headquarters at 5/48 Pirrama Road, Pyrmont again this year and we're really looking forward to seeing you there.

We'll have free beer and pizza for everyone along with the chance to win some excellent prizes donated by sponsors.

Our two major prizes this year are a 10 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab (v2) courtesy of Praxis BT (http://www.praxisbt.com) and a voucher for the online training class of your choice from Zend Technologies (http://www.zend.com).

Amongst the other prizes and give-aways we're delighted to announce that Rewired State (http://rewiredstate.com.au) have come forward to donate a brand new Wii U. The wonderful folks at Ninefold (http://ninefold.com) have arranged a variety of chilled beers and Spinifex Group (http://www.spinifexgroup.com) have all of the delicious pizza covered!

To be in with a chance of winning one of the prizes all you need to do is RSVP, turn up on the night and be present for the prize draw.

Here's a quick reminder of the format for Phunconference particularly for anyone who hasn't been along before:

Phunconference is a relatively informal conference where attendees choose the topics for discussion. With two or three concurrent sessions running at any one time, there will be a wide range of topics available, and something to interest everyone. Essentially it provides everyone with a chance to learn and share in a relaxed environment along with the opportunity to chat with people in a great atmosphere.

We've had to place a limit on the number of attendees so please make sure you RSVP as soon as possible.

Let's make this the best Phunconference yet.

:-D

Cheers man. Drenching the cuts in antiseptic helped I think. Looking forward to the next event.

Hi there, if you have more interest in AOP and PHP proxies let me know. I have an idea for a lightweight proxy generating library for some time now, but not enough time to code it all by myself :) If someone would like to get involved and make it a little open source pet project please email me :) I think one person would be enough to get initial version done.

    cheers :)

Hey, where can I get the lightening talk speakers name?

    December 17, 2012

    • Dave C.

I took photos during the talks and added captions with their names which might be a quick way to get them, they are available through the meetup photos page

Further to the 1st session topic on Testing, EVERYONE should watch this video.. it's 50mins, but it takes a very simple case and shows you how to make the tests that make your software work.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msTiQtQ_A2k

    Designing Beautiful Software
Speaker: Matthew Weier O`Phinney Zend Technologies

Software is a craft. Like any craft, the software we build can be either quickly created to solve an immediate problem, or well crafted for longevity. Typically in software, we look at how extensible and maintainable a system may be in order to judge its quality. In this session, we'll take a practical example, and develop it from a quick one-liner into a re-usable component. Along the way, we'll discuss the choices we make as developers, and how they affect both how we develop and the results we produce -- choices ranging from testing to considering scalability, to re-use with alternate configuration. The goal is to inspire developers to craft beautiful software.

My first SydPHP Phunconference. More that I expected. Had a lot of fun, meet some very interesting people, heard a lot of interesting points of view and have many points to review tomorrow at work. Had warm beer and hot pizza, and missed out on wining a prize (apparently my name was drawn in a test run, so I am a winner just a prize of air!)
