Winter is almost over. Yes, there IS a light at the end of the (very cold) tunnel.
With the weather set to warm up a little in the coming months, I thought it would be a great idea to start a monthly walking club. It's a fantastic opportunity to catch some rays, gain a little bit of fitness and see some of the most beautiful parts of Sydney.
Meetup member Stuart has graciously agreed to help me out with these walks, as he is somewhat of a walking aficionado.
Our first walk will start at Clovelly. You will all have a choice of walking routes. If you're new to walking or don't feel 100% up to the challenge, you can opt for Option A. If you are a die-hard walking enthusiast or you just want to be out in the sun a little longer, you can choose Option B. Please see below for descriptions.
OPTION A - CLOVELLY - MAROUBRA:
This walk is approximately 5.5km long and takes about 2 hours to complete. I will be finishing at Maroubra with those who choose this option and we can stop off at a pub or cafe afterwards for some refreshments and chats. (Note we will ALL be walking this route, but Option B will be an additional walk from Maroubra)
OPTION B - CLOVELLY - LITTLE BAY:
You will walk with the rest of the group from Clovelly to Maroubra, then keep walking to eventually finish at Little Bay. Stuart will be taking this walk with those of you who choose this. The walk is an extra 5.5km and will take another 2 hours (10.5km and 4 hours from start to finish).
NB: To get back from Little Bay, the 393 will be running back to the city (including Central) and I (Stuart) will be taking this option. Please make sure you have a bus ticket ready if you plan on returning this way (section 2-3).
COMMON STARTING POINT:
NOTE: we will ALL start at the same Clovelly meeting point. If you are taking public transport to Clovelly, please catch the 339 bus from Eddy Avenue, Central Station to Clovelly terminus. We will then meet outside of the Seasalt Cafe+ Kiosk.
WHAT TO WEAR/BRING:
- Comfortable walking clothes (i.e. no jeans, leather, clubbing attire, unless you feel most comfortable walking in these clothes).
- Comfortable walking shoes (remember: if they're new, it's best to wear them a few times before the walk to avoid blisters)
- Adequate sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses)
- Bottle of water (1-1.5L should do the trick)
- Towel (optional)
- Energy snacks (optional)
- Jacket (optional, but it could get a little chilly once you stop walking)
- Small backpack with valuables (optional)
When you RSVP, please leave a comment with the route you intend to take - either "OPTION A" or "OPTION B" - so we know rough numbers.
*Remember: don't push yourself too hard! If you feel like we're walking too fast or you need to take a break, or even if you feel like you need to quit, let us know. We won't judge and speaking up is a much better alternative than fainting. This isn't Tough Mudder.*
