• Rebuilding your Organisation (sociocracy3.0 in practice)

As Australian organisations continue to evolve we are faced with a challenge of how to best harness the benefits of Agility. Instead of providing a prescription, Sociocracy 3.0 (S3) invites us to experiment using patterns designed to be customised to context. In this workshop we'll explore a collection of S3 patterns that enable effective collaboration across disparate teams, departments or organisations. Some of the core pattern groups we’ll cover are; Principles - Co-creation and Evolution - Organising Work - Organisational Structure Some more information on S3 Sociocracy 3.0 (S3) is a flexible open source guide that is purpose built to enhance collaboration at any scale. Founders Bernhard Bocklebrink and James Priest designed S3 with the intent for it to be suitable for any context. The result is an evolving set of patterns that lend themselves to a broad range of application. One of S3's greatest strengths is its modular design. Each pattern can be individually or in groups for added benefits. You can start from exactly where you are. There is no need to institute a large scale change, begin experimenting with a pattern that responds to an area that needs help. You can see all of the defined S3 patterns here; http://sociocracy30.org/. About Speaker- John Tooth Since entering the world of Agile John has facilitated a variety of different work in the finance and digital domains. Most often this has involved various forms of Scrum, Kanban and SAFe. Additionally John is quite passionate about Sociocracy 3.0 and how it can be blended with agile frameworks to enhance their capability. Through experience he has found that the agile landscape provides a rich tapestry of tools that solve problems, success tends to be found in the ability to find the right tool for the situation. During this meetup, John will not only go through S3 fundamental, and the meetup audiences will also get to experience and role play some of key S3 patterns

  • Agile Australia 2018 Preview Talk from Alyce Katsanos

    New Elabor8 Office

G'Day All, This month we will kickoff with a FUN icebreaker from Mazen and David from Elabor8 then we are blessed with a preview of a talk for Agile Australia 2018 from Alyce Katsanos. Speaker Bio A Senior Consultant at Elabor8, Alyce has spent the last 12 months working in the Insurance and Financial Services sectors. Her admittedly unusual career trajectory, from piano teacher, to technical writer, to Agile practitioner, brings a unique perspective and set of skills to coaching. Pragmatic in her approach, it's Alyce's honesty, passion and ability to deliver successful outcomes in the most unlikely of situations that simultaneously keeps her teams happy and stakeholders trusting. What makes Alyce tick is her ability to find fluid, collaborative and effective ways to work in constrained environments that sometimes make people feel like they're drowning in a sea of red tape. Known by everyone she works with for always having a cup of coffee in her hand, she's established a reputation for finding solutions that give people, teams and organisations the freedom to move. Session Title Trials of the Financial Services trifecta: Risk, Regulator and Restructures. Session Abstract I'll be honest, there are times when the Risk, Regulator and Restructure trifecta makes me yearn for my free and easy piano teaching days! Regulators, increasing compliance, restructures and the belief that 'agile can fix everything' even when an agile mindset is not well understood has made working in Financial Services a tough gig. This session is not a ticket to Financial Services bliss, it's about what keeps me coming back, the rush I get when I make it out the other side, people intact and the business in a better place. It's a peak into my world and how I've learned to navigate the chaos, governance overload, constant influx of unreasonable and immovable dates whilst managing my own internal fear of failure. On a happier note, it's also about me sharing my insights on how to make good decisions in complex systems, manage to have a laugh and celebrate the success of accomplishing more in three months than some expected to happen in years. As always, there will be food and drinks, some FUN, and a chance to mingle and network so RSVP early to secure your place. Look forward to seeing you there! Mazen and Agile BA PO Meetup team
