Practice Scrum - The Frog War

Welcome to our first meetup of 2011!

Venue:
Atlassian Basement
[masked] Sussex St
Entrance via Slip Lane at the rear of the building

Schedule:
6:00pm - Drinks
6:30pm - 7:30pm - Practice Scrum
&:30pm - 8:00pm - Playing Frog War

Let's start the new year with the Scrum basics as a reminder:
Many people come to the Scrum user group to know more about Scrum or basically practice Scrum.

Let's come back to the roots and teach/learn/experiment how to use an Agile framework.
A Scrum Simulation Game :
You have got 4 prints to drive your Team and build your own Frog Army.
Around a basic Origami production of frog warriors, play the different Roles, Rituals, wRitings and Rhythms of Scrum framework in order to compete with each other at the end of the Meetup.

    Good participation from everyone.
Not enough time to play with the producted frogs but a lot of fun into this micro-scrum experience, specially for the product owners who for the first time wanted to produce with the team :-)

This was a great chance to practice scrum in a fun and innovative way.

I will definitely come back based on this first experience.

    Nice work Jeremie

Brilliant evening - the Frog War was an excellent and fun way to learn/remind us of Scrum practices. Many thanks Jeremie and Roman!

Smart game, illiustrated scrum very well and drew many parallel lines with the real software development slash scrum experience.
    Thanx organizers

It was a helpful, interesting meeting. Actually it is so interesting that time seems to fly (not forgetting socializing is part of it all) I just wish houses were more affordable in Sydney so I hadn't got home 10.30pm :))

@Rowan and Jeremie - I agree there is room/need for both, but I just want to ensure there isn't meeting conflicts so everyone can benefit from both.

Argh! I was looking forward to this one but I've been booked in for a conference call to Wales at the last minute. Frustrated.

I agree with Rowan, in Agile practice is as important as the theory.

Hi Ryan, the Scrum User Group has been around a lot longer than Agile Sydney and I think the two groups are very much complimentary. Agile Sydney meetups generally feature a talk by one or two speakers whilst the Scrum User Group meetups are generally interactive workshops or round-table discussion. I think there is value in both don't you?

We are currently reviewing for Feb and March just to organize the Scrum User group.
As you know it's not so easy to fit all calendars and venue availabilities.
Thank you very much for your understanding.

agreed - perhaps its worth discussing some consolidation between these groups?

Meetup really needs better features to help with conflicting dates...

    1 · January 30, 2011

  • Ryan C.

@Jeremie - sorry to point this out again, but the new date clashes with the Agile meetup at Google. http://www.meetup.com/Agile-Sydney/events/16089999/

  • Jeremie

Date changed to 8th of Feb, update your RSVP!

Does anyone else get frustrated that this meetup clashes with the Agile meetup at http://www.meetup.com/The-Sydney-Limited-WIP-Society/calendar/15985759/
