Part 1 Session Description
Scan & Go is Woolworths' high tech in-store app which allows shoppers to buy groceries in store directly from their phone, foregoing queues and the frustration of self serve check outs. The Woolworths Group has been focused on the importance of digital and what we need to do to better serve our customers to create shopping experiences that are personalised, seamless and convenient. The scan & go app is our most recent launch of innovative technology to continue to have a customer approach to shopping. Mike will talk through how the app was developed, how they used agile to overcome difficulties in a Scrum implementation. They have a store onsite to demonstrate the final product.

Part 2 Session Description
The Scrum Product Backlog seems like such a simple concept. So simple, in fact that its potential sophistication is typically overlooked. Instead people flock to seemingly more "advanced" techniques such as Story Maps. Sadly these techniques often create as many problems as they solve, offering the chance to revert to old patterns "requirements definitions" created by "value creating teams". And in the confusion the power of true prioritisation has been lost. If you're done with "agile delivery" and you're ready to harness the real power of agile, then this just might be the session that starts you on your way.
About Simon Bennett
Although the bulk of his early career was working in heavy process military (2167/A) and government projects, Simon’s Agile Journey began in the mid 1990’s when he led a multi-national team using the then almost unknown Scrum process to build a distributed war gaming system to celebrate the USAF’s 50th Anniversary in Las Vegas Nevada.
Discovering “XP” in 1998, Simon added these techniques to Scrum and successfully deployed them across several start-ups (most notably as Technical Solutions Manager for Peakhour in 1999) before relocating to the UK and taking up a position as CTO with Albourne Partners (a Hedge Fund Consultancy), running Scrum and XP for on and offshore software development.
After Conchango’s acquisition by EMC Consulting, Simon become the global practice lead for not only Agile, but also Lean and Systems Thinking.
After leaving EMC Simon formed LASTing Benefits – a boutique solutions consultancy focussing on Agile Benefits Realisation (including Agile Contracting Support). Notable Australian clients include:
Qantas, AUSTRAC, Victoria Health, Queensland Health and Macquarie Bank as well as many other smaller institutions.
