Re: Shermer in Sydney

Dear Leigh,

It is dissapointing that it was not possible to change the flight times to enable Michael Shermer to address the Sydney sceptics meetup group and others on the evening of Thursday the 21st.  The alternate evening Saturday 16th is not available because of an address by Victor Stenger at the Chatswood Club to the Australian Skeptics.  Also, I do not believe a Saturday morning breakfast would draw sufficient numbers as most people have other family commitments.

As you know I have circulated Michaels original itinerary and revised itinerary as widely as possible. Therefore there are at least three functions in Sydney which younger people may be able to attend. Namely:

1.  7:00:00 PM  23rd of August John Lennox/Michael Shermer debate - Is Science and Religion Compatible? - Wesley Conference Centre 220 Pitt St, Sydney, 7pm

To book a ticket for the debate, visit www.publicchristianity.org

and proceed to the online store or call (02)[masked]

or email [address removed]

 2.  23rd of August - Lunch with Skeptics

Contacts at the Australian Skeptics:

President: Peter Bowditch

Executive Officer & Editor: Barry Williams

(02)[masked]

[address removed]

 3.  22nd of August 5:30 9:30 Ultimo Science Festival -

Keynote speaker in Big Night of Science (forum) Powerhouse Museum. 500 Harris Street
Ultimo Sydney

I am circulating this email to other groups such as the Atheist meetup group and the Sydney Freethinking Society, Sydney Humanists meetup group, Sydney Friends of Science meetup group and the Sydneys Socrates Cafe meetup group whose members have either expressed or might be interested in attending one of his functions.

Again it is unfortunate that we were unable to arrange an additional meeting directed specifically at younger people as the Founder of the American Skeptics Movement is a very important voice for rational thought.

I look forward to meeting Michael at some point.

Kindest Regards

Nathan

Hi Nathan

I\\\\\'ve just had a look at Michael\\\\\'s schedule and unfortunately on the 21st I can\\\\\'t get him in from Perth until 10 at night due to the time zones. The only other option available at night to do something is the night that Michael arrives in Australia. He will get in at 5:30pm and then leaves for Melbourne early the next day but if he is willing to do something that night, then that might be a possibility.

Otherwise, the only other option would be to do a breakfast function on the morning of Sat 23 August.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers
